A06 and skype

I just reinstalled skype after doing the A06 and noticed that the application doesn't even start now. It did work in A01, not sure about any of the interim updates.

Email is still completely broken as well.

Does anyone know if there is a forum at dell or somewhere where we can file bugs on these things? These forums are great for finding out "if it's just me" or if someone else is having the same problems, finding out if anyone has discovered a workaround, etc. However, it would be nice to actually get these reports to someone who could do something about it.

Skype works for me with A06 - Currently got two X51V, and Skype is fine on both.

Likewise e-mail works too

I have just tried skype and it works perfectly. Infact I have never used it on my pda before and I'm _very_ impressed.

I use skype quite a lot on my X51 w/ A05. I love it. Its a little slow sometimes (to get started), but works very well afterwards. The sound quality is good, both to and fro. Its free (computer to computer) and IMO it works well.

Can you tell me what equipment you are using to use skype on your Axim x51v?

Got A06, Got Skype working fine as well.

What do you mean by equipment? Other then the standard X51v hardware that comes with the Dell package you dont need much more for Skype to work on you Axim.

Indeed, the Axim needs no extra equipment. Only an Internet connection. I use Wi-Fi most often, it seems anything less is a bit sluggish, but still acceptable. On my laptop, just some speakers and a mic, normal stuff. Other people I have confrenced with just have an Axim. They also use Wi-Fi. Obdivously all of our Wi-Fi connections have DSL or better to get out to the internet. Just talked to a guy this morning, he used Skype over PPC to call france (Pirelli) and he said the sound quality was much better than he expected. There was a much greater delay than he liked about 1.5 seconds, but he still liked it. High-Speed is the key. Reg mics and speakers work well for most normal uses.

So you folks with Skype are not using the headphone set that Dell sells as an accessory for the X51/X50 line? I'd like to know how well that works.

,I Had the same problems with A06 and Skype... Eventually after repeated attempts to resolve it I finally managed it!

#1: Find where on the Axim the "Skype" files are kept (it can spread them out a bit..) and delete all of them
#2: Open Active sync and Remove "Skype from the add remove programs list
#3: Download the current skype version from http://www.skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc
Use the "Install onto P.C" as it's quicker
#4: Then install in the normal way.. (The 1st time you open Skype on the Axim, you need to accept the licence)

This will work, it seam to be the upgrade to A06 has damaged the licence / connectivity of Skype some how... :approve:

I did finally get it working, I had to go into the memory app though and kill ALL other processes any time I want to launch skype. The axim seems to have been designed pretty well for use with skype because of the placement of speaker and microphone. If you turn the axim upside down, the speaker ends up by your ear and the mic by your mouth.

I just use ear buds and the built in mic. Works fine.
