Turning off PPC does NOT kill WiFi connection

If I do NOT manually turn off WiFi I have noticed that when I push the power button to turn my x51v off that is does NOT kill the WiFi connection. Here is what I see. The WiFi led will stop flashing for a minute or so and then minutes later it is flashing nice and steady as if I were surfing the net with it (while the unit is off). Just about all the time when I push the button to turn on I get the white screen, or nothing and I have to do a soft resset.

Here is a list of some software I think could be involved that I have installed. Also There are NO programs list in memory that are running.

WiFiFoFum
Wi-Fi Companion
Pocket Weather
Pocket RSS

Can anyone confirm this happens to them if they do not manually turn off their WiFi connection?

I have had this issue with WSOD if I do not turn of wifi before I power down. I have since turned off wifi before powering down and have not had one WSOD since. I have a clean install of A06 for going on 3 days.

That is an old problem that has never been completely fixed. I had it on my X50v with WM2003se and still have it since upgrading to WM5. only sure answer has been to turn off wifi before powering down.

One time I turned my Axim off (not fully off) and then about 10-20 minutes later (I left it sitting on my desk) it noticed out of the corner of my eye, the LED light started flashing again (for not aparent reason). About 10 or so seconds of this, and the lights stopped. Then the same thing about 10-20 minutes later. Its just plain wierd.

I have seen that also. You probably did not turn off WiFi before you turned off the power button.

@ Zeus661 & @ coolbre304

The reason is .... you guys are mistakingly thinking the unit is "OFF" ..but infact, it is only in "SUSPEND" mode ...

if you have set your unit "power button" to "FULLY OFF" ...there are people mistaking how to use it properly ..here's to explain it further.

~~~if you only push the button & let go right away ..it will only go to suspend mode. (pushing the button again will have the TODAY screen on instantly )
~~~ to fully turn it off ...you need to hold the POWER BUTTON down for atleast a few seconds ... additionally...there will be a "NOTIFICATION + SOUND" warning you about the unit will be fully off & you must tap "OK" ... the next time you push the button ...DELL boot screen will display & the unit will takes some times to power up ...like a reboot/reset .

~~~ IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for the WIFI to be flashing ..if you indeed have it FULLY OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and yes ...all your above mentioned problem DOES exist when it is in "SUSPEND" mode !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
therefore ... there was NO PROBLEM to begin with :D ;)
WM2003/2003SE NEVER had the fully off options ... you have a backup battery + the 72 hrs rule.
~~~ with WM5 & the X51V ... and only with WM5 where you really have this option ... & the X51V does NOT have a backup battery & the 72 hrs rule is removed.

that's why it feels like an old problem to you ;)

Thanks, but I am well aware of the difference. And yes there is a problem. Before you put the axim is in "SUSPEND" mode, leave on BT and Wi-Fi. Let your Axim sit for a while in "SUSPEND" mode. Watch the LED lights. Notice that after about ten or so minutes while in "SUSPEND" mode, the light on the Axim will begin to blink for about ten seconds or so. This should not happen while it is in "SUSPEND" mode, or "FULLY OFF". You are correct that this doesn't happen in "FULLY OFF" mode, but you think that that they are supposed to blink at random time while in "SUSPEND" mode? I belive you are sorley mistaken.

Am i the only fortunate person here that never looked 'death' right in the eyes?

Anyway, i also noticed that when powering off my Axim, WiFi remains on and connected which results in battery drain .

My X51v (A06) definitely kills wifi when turned off (standby, not full off) The light ceases to flash, and it no longer responds to pings.

Perhaps it's Activesync waking up the PPC? Do you have activesync set to manual (fake server hack?)
