I use a public DNS server hosted by my local university. If your somewhere near Oregon, you might try 128.193.4.20 and 128.193.0.10.

Thanks for the reply Talisman, but I'm nowhere near Oregona. Florida actually. Over the weekend I tested at a local fast food restaurant and it worked just fine - which seems strange to me that it would, but I'm definitely not complaining.

Folks, I'd like to post an update here. It seems that I fixed my X51v's sluggish DNS problem. In fact, it would appear that it wasn't the Axim at all.

First, here's a quick diagram of my home Wifi network:

[Speedstream 5200 DSL modem] <-----> [Belkin Pre-N MIMO router]

While I was working on a web project for a client, I decided it was just easier to let them surf the test site on my work PC through my network. When I went into the router settings to open port 80 to my PC, I discovered that the DSL modem was in ROUTER mode. This means it was providing a NAT address to my Belkin router instead of the actual internet IP. I didn't like this situation, so I looked around the web for instructions on putting the DSL modem into BRIDGE mode. It's really just a matter of resetting the modem so that your username and password are erased from memory.

After the DSL modem rebooted, it gave its true internet IP address to the Belkin router, which then provided NAT addresses for all of the PCs on my network. It was later that evening that I tried surfing the web from the Axim and discovered that DNS queries were happening almost instantaneously!

So, if you're running a DSL modem that is providing a non-internet IP address to your router or AP, you might want to try this.

If it takes too long to load PIE, try cleaning your cache files. From PIE, clear your cookies & history, and delete files. You should see some improvement.

Check your Index.dat (3 of them). They "grow" everytime you surf. Even if you delete all the above files, these index files will remain the same size. Use MemMaid to clean up if you're uncomfortable with "deleting" them using the Registry.

You should see further improvement by doing this. Note: During your initial visit, the site (e.g. Aximsite) will write a cookie, as well as to your Index.dat. It should take about 5 sec. Subsequent visit will take about 2 sec if you've "Picture" turn off.

You should see improvement after trying the above. I set my glyphcache to max. When switching page, it takes less than 1 sec. I have 187Mb ROM free, 20Mb RAM free when PIE is loaded.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE
Limit=32768

Try it.

Using 128.193.4.20 as a DNS IP fixed the slow locating problem I had. Kickass.

So I guess that means DHCP in A06 is screwy on some routers? Or maybe it isn't caching/sticking right.
