I'm following through on my theory that the dreaded "lost CF card" problem under WM5 (X51v) - which I have found to be even worse under A06 than under A04 - is worse with some cards than others. I have never lost my transend SD card and was wondering whether a transend CF card might perform better than others (especially the Kington 4gb card I have which I lose about every 5 minutes).
So ...who has the disappearing CF card problem with a transend card?
Hi, same here with me, got a Kingston 2 GB CF-card and when the x51v is shut off it won't find the CF card after switching it on. Have then to make a reset and the CF card is detected again. That won't really bother me if the reset of the axim would be a bit faster (like with my former iPAQ). Everytime I try to use my navigation system (cards on CF) I have to begin with a reset. Think this is not a problem with the CF card brand but with WM5, its definitely too buggy. Am now testing some possibilities with the system (automatically switch off of the Axim), if anything works I'll let you know.
thanks - I agree that it's the time to power on again that makes this so irritating. I'm still interested to hear about Transcend card experience. Lots of people have the same prob with SD cards but my Transcend SD card (4gb too) has never let me down.

I had the same issue. My solution was to take the advice of another here on this site and turn on BT (Blue Tooth) and leave it on even when turning off my unit. This trick has worked 100% for me. I have not lost my CF or SD card a single time. It also stopped the 'Does Not Turn On' issue and the 'White Screen' issue. IMHO its simple and fast solution.
Two issues with that solution - first what's the impact on battery life and second isn't it a bit irritating to have that blue light flashing continuously. I guess it's stupid to ask if there's an option to switch off the blue flasing light while keeping BT on.
Cheers

I answered my own original question - I found a transcend CF card and at first I thought it was going to last the pace but overnight it disappeared - just like all the others!!

Battery loss is 2% over 8 hours while the unit is in the off condition. flashing light vs having the issues is something I have accepted. There is another alternative that has been documented on this site and a sticky has been posted on here. You may take a look at it. That trick is a bit more complicated but works just as well with out having your BT always on. Guess the correct answer is try them both and see which one you feel meets your needs. I am trying the alternative method for a bit to see if its results match the BT trick. If it does then I will be staying with it because 2% battery gain is 2% battery gain!
Did you do the PNP Unload Deay reg hack? When I upgraded to A06, I lost my CF card, without fail when I powered off. I did the reg hack, and I never had my CF card disappear on my once after that.
The post at: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638 resolves your problem. Before it, not only did I have to do a soft reset just to use navigation, it would bomb out half the time before I got halfway to a destination, and would then have to do soft reset. After the steps in the above post, all problems ended. No more soft reset, no more lost CF card, no more turn on/off problem, and ActiveSync only runs when cradled and connected. Do it, your problems will be gone. :)
