The ultimative solution for the Power-On Problem

Hey Guys,

i found a good solution in a german board, which works just fine on each unit.

1.) You need to install a Registry Editor. If you got not the "resco explorer" you can take a freeware tool, like the Tascal RegEdit.

2.) Go to" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager" and change the value of "PNPUNloadDelay" from 1500 to 4096. Now you just have to softreset your unit and everything will work fine ...

I have tried this on 3 units, and all 3 dont have any problems in this.

Description: This key says WM5 how often the SD-Driver has to reload the SD-Card, if the unit is in stand-by mode. From now on this is not 1500, but 4096ms. As you know this issue just appears with sd cards plugged in.

i hope that it will fix your problems, too.

I'm pretty sure A06 includes this change in the registry. Mine was already set to 4096.

Gee... maybe Dell and Mickysoft read the German boards?

I would like to ask, A06 is for Windows mobile 2003, and not for Windows Mobile 5, right?

My CD Just arrived and Windows mobile 5 are A00!

Don't think this was an A06 change - I installed A06 and the value was set to 1500. More to the point I have the "won't turn on" and "disappearing CF card" problems just as bad as before the upgrade so I hope this tweak will help!!

Mine is still set to 1500 with A06 installed. And for the record, I haven't seen any of the problems mentioned.

Could I ask when (and from which supplier) you got your X51v? I think I might be having these problems because I was an early (UK) adopter!

I got mine directly from Dell here in the U.S. right after Christmas. Ordered on Dec 27th and delivered on the 28th.

Dell bought just before Christmas from Dell Canada came with A00 and had these problems. This problem was fixed by 3 step solution.

Upgraded to A06 couple weeks ago and had no power problem but had SD card dissappear twice. Both times, receeded the card and it was fine.

A06 had setting of 1500 but after reading this post changed to 4096. Hopefully this will be the ultimate solution as the posting suggests. ^.^

Hi
Today I had my first power-on problem, with A06.
What I had to do was:
I took a hard reset, then I had to choose: continue or cancel.
I choose cansel, and then I push the power button, and my X51V get on.
The only thing I had to do after it start was to set the time and date.
So now I have done the change the value of "PNPUNloadDelay" from 1500 to 4096.

I noticed AFTER this mod that the value of PNPWaitIODelay was also changed to 4096 from 1500.

Hummm... Maybe one of the many applications I've installed requires that setting and made the change during it's install?
