Recent X51v purchases more reliable?

I've had lots of problems with my X51v bought when they first reached the UK market last summer and upgrading the ROM hasn't helped with the key issues of the unit refusing to turn on and losing the CF card.

It intrigues me that some people have these problems and others don't and the only conclusion I can come to is that some hardware issues have been resolved in units manufactured recently. I don't think it's the software combinations people use because I've tried installing one program at a time and the problems recur straight away.

So my question (before I bite the bullet and try to replace my X51v for a 'newer model') is this: is there anyone out there who bought or was given an X51v after Christmas who is experiencing the problems I mentioned earlier?

Thanks for your input

I had a replacement for my X51 (got it a week or so ago), came with A01 ROM, and still suffers from the same problems the original had (which ironically doesn't have now after the A06 upgrade - and the new one does even with A06).

So, I dont think think the build quality has changed much - not much changed either way.

I got mine after Christmas. Its fine, not because of it being 'newer' or having better build quality.

Its due to following the tips and advices on AximSite regarding what tweaks need to be used to keep the unit stable.

If I didnt use any of the tips and tweaks on AximSite I would have all the problems listed by users complaining of problems with their x51v's running WM5.

All the ROM updates havent really fixed any of these problems. Its only the tweaks and 'fixes' that have really made a difference to the stability. Without using them even the happier or satisfied users would have big problems.

If you dont apply the tweaks you will have problems.

Yes, I agree with you. I got my X51V on 27-12-2005. It was ROM A01 version and had problems of 'power on' and' White screen of death'. I had a SD card, but not a CF and I didn't have card disappearance problem. The problems with my X51V have vanished after three days ago I made the trick: set a 'fake server' to make ActiSync 'manual'. So far everything works fine and I am relunctant to upgrade to A06. I will wait for A10 to release, perhaps.

I must admit to suspecting activesync to be the fountain of Bad Things... Mine arrived on the 15th of December(though I wasn't allowed to play with it until the 26th, christmas present ) and while I experienced no serious issues I was finding a strange power drain, had two "will not switch on" errors and once had a WSOD after plugging into the cradle.

After the activesync tweak (which is great because AS still starts up when i cradle my device, which is the one time I actually want it to) I have had no problems that were not caused by me being stupid or using dodgy software.

BTW, if it helps the sticker under my battery says A00, presumably the hardware revision number, so there seemingly have been no hardware revisions in the line.

ActiveSync is pretty poor, although I think the software on both the PC and X51V is the cause...
