Dummy Battery for connecting to external power
I use an external socketcom mobile power pack - which has usb output. I connect this to the power adaptor dongle that Dell supply.
Problem: The dongle is v. bulky - it is about 5 cm long and therefore could put a lot of strain on the bottom port. Any jarring of the dongle has a major leverage on that port. I know from having ripped the input port off the motherboard of my Mitac 168 because of a similar arrangement.
What I am looking for is a more "low profile" way of attaching an external battery. One thought that occurred to me is a dummy battery box, with a thin cable going out through a slot in the battery cover. There are 6 contacts on the standard battery, presumably two of them are for power? Not sure what the others are for.
Comments? Suggestions?
