Question Late delivery issues in UK with the new X51v - reasons???

Been absent from these boards for a very long time due to my frustrations with Dell & my current Axim X30 624mhz PPC. Came over from Palm and my 1st PPC handheld was the X30 - what a waste of space that was! Had screen probs within a few months of having it - ie bleeding! Got it changed for another "refurbished model", as soon as the warranty is out on that one it's gone too! What luck

So thought why not go with the ALL new X51v - which I have now ordered 2 weeks ago - it looks good, good reviews, priced fairly - this time I of-course went for the ALL care warranty over 2 years rather than 1! Just in-case!

Was informed this all new handheld would be in my grubby hands today! Just got an email 2 days ago stating it has now been delayed for 3 weeks.

So I put my 1st thread in over a year now, to find out what is going on with Dell? Are they going to be releasing an X60 soon, so they want to get rid of their X51's and decide to mess up their new customers. Is it just due to lack of supply?

Of-course being the conspiracy theorist I would presume it's the former & they just want to rip us UK customers off, but hell what do I know buying the X30 (the top of the line model) which was then shortly replaced by the X50 - got that hurt! So surely this will happen again??? Oh well should I have just stuck with the Palm???

Questions, questions, questions ...

May not be any comfort, but the estimated delivery date on my order (before Xmas) was v. pessimistic. I received the device about 1 week beforehand.

I ordered mine on the 28th December and had it in my hands on the 4th. Would have been the 3rd but the courier couldn't make it.

It might be that they are stopped the supply chain while waiting for the new Operating System to settle in. Once that is done / now that is done they will be building up supplies again.

Or it could mean that they have mis-calculated how many batteries or cases or screens or cradles or CDs or whatever they need and are waiting for deliveries of those.

Or it could mean that with the Dell end of year approaching they would rather ship next year??

Hi I ordered my Axim X51v on the 12 Jan and it finally arrived yesterday. Whilst waiting for it to arrive, I tracked the order via the UPS web site and discovered that my axim, destined for here in the UK was being built in Holland!

Now it has arrived I have discovered that it has ROM 06 pre-installed and I’ve experienced no problems…not even required to perform a soft reset....Just hope I haven’t spoken to soon.

I have noticed that viewing web pages via wifi is very sloooow, even via my 2meg connection, although downloading files however is just as fast as my Laptop????

Any ideas?

so is it just me then???

as i still have my x30 wouldn't it wiser to just cancel the order and just buy another brand instead - go for a company with a bit more customer loyalty!

not happy that i have been made to wait & still waiting for an X51v

oh well, only 2.5 more weeks to go??? or should i use my hard earned money on a new graphics card :exc:

Did you order any accessories with it? Sometimes Dell will pause a shipment while waiting for a screen protector to come into stock

You're probably right, i ordered the 3 stylus pack, the car charger & the USB sync cable too plus the extended battery case & also the extended battery. Thought may aswell get them all in 1 go!

So it was me then, should've just stuck with the bog std X51v

Do you guys feel it is still worth waiting for or do you feel I should pack in the X51v and stick with my trusted X30H instead (I can live with the bleeding screen if needed). Or ditch Dell & go for another brand instead

It'll be my 4th as i've had the Palm M130, then the Palm Tungsten T then the Axim X30H 624 (current).

The X30H is a wonderful PDA but the only thing lacking was the dire customer support (or non-existence some would say!). Had the bleeding screen issues 3 times on the X30, the 1st & 2nd times it was replaced no problem. Yet on the 3rd occasion they wouldn't even though I had had the unit only 9 months or so! Not happy with back office support.

Speedwise I have to admit the Palm's were way quicker even though they didn't use "in theory" as quick a processor as the PDA equivalents. The Palm OS is far smoother & quicker to use. Never had probs with bleeding screens on either of my Palms??? Is this just a PPC issue?

I will probably change my mind if I get the X51v in 3 weeks or so! But not in respect of Dell's support though!

Does anyone out there know of any good PDA's out there around the same sort of price (be they Palm or PPC based) or should i just stick with my X30H or bite the bullet and stick with Dell's distain of my order

My X51v arrived in just over a week - last Tuesday. I ordered it without any add-ons, but that's hardly an excuse to for slow delivery.

Dell have a ~25% offer on in the Uk at the moment. Don't know if this means they are about to launch something new, or whether they are casting their eyes at the new Acer n311 which looks pretty close to equivalent to the x51v and for about the same price (pre-discount)
