I had the same problem. It has to do with the redraw of the video card. Normally this problem happens for me when I am doing something video intensive. When I bump up my processor speed and keep the amount of programs that are running under 4 it seems to avoid the problem happening.

I only have the one program running (PIE) and all it takes is a quick visit to the k2 ski website to cause the issue? Maybe the web page is so intense it causes the AXIM graphics driver to instantly explode.

Point of Note -- opera works fine!

I reported it to Dell but as it is an application issue (or at least by their definition) they can't do anything about it. they did tell me to stop visiting that particular web-site

I would be interested to see if anyone else who has experienced this program also has it triggered by that web-site???

I'm glad it's not just me. It often does it if I put it in landscape mode

Howdy all, I'm new here. Lots of GREAT information on this site. Loving my X51v (upgraded from a Casio Cassiopeia E125 which I still love), and thought I was alone with the "static" appearing on the screen. Just another problem report here. To me it happened IMMEDIATELY after I reinstalled the A06 ROM update and got to the Today screen.

The "static" appeared right below the clock. After I received my unit and downloaded some apps to play with, I decided to start from scratch and install only the software I'm going to use. With all the installs and uninstalls I thought I hosed the video up. While applying the update I saw these posts here and when I got to the Today screen moments ago..

:)

..and I just got off the phone with Dell support. All I wanted to do was to report the problem making it clear that NO third party apps were installed, didn't have high expectations based on what I read on this thread. :)

Support had me perform a hard reset. Thank goodness I had no apps installed..! The support rep stated that the A06 update was supposed to address this and battery issues. I'm not convinced.

Well, it's been a month now and I'm on my replacement Axim and guess what? I've had it about three weeks and everything was going good until this weekend. Screen frizzed up when using PIE, just like the first one. Luckily a soft reset took care of it. I think this is something between Mobile 5 and the Axim, hopefully they will work it up in an A07 update!

It happens twice on my X51v(A06), both happens when browsering web page with PIE. Another annoying bug in WM5.

Back again after A12 update! What's funny is it went away for the longest time until this update., of course I was doing a soft reset every day with A06. A12 is faster and I haven't sost reset in 3 days.

I would suggest that you do a soft reset everynight before you put it away for good, it dosen't hurt anythingand solves alot of problems.

Very unlikely.
I think they say in the manual the PDA may crash once in a while.

In the recent case of Dell laptop catching fire they responded laptop was perfectly fine.

What amazes me that TV-like static problem appears almost at the
same time on many PDAs and always while surfing the net.
Could it be M$ is sending something to us ? :-)

Microsoft is always sending us a message $ ;-)

I did the fake server trick with A12 and everything seems fine again.

Activesync kept stating up, so I did the FST and the screen seems fine now, I'm going to see how long I can go without a soft reset.

A12 does seem like it speeded up everything!

Turned on the Axim this morning, screen was scrambled. Turned it off and on again, same thing. Did a reset, ok again. So looks like they didn't fix it with A12!

yea I had that on my x50v I even posted a thread about it and I got it replaced with an x51v and I upgraded to a12 from a06 so I hope to not have that as it is very nasty looking.

I have X50 and it was set to backup (Sprite) & reset itself every night. Still have the screen problems from time to time. Getting so annoyed that I went back to X5, X5 works like a charm and like a true pda, in my opinion.
