Hmm X51v - Two weeks old and now no sound

i've had my X51v for two weeks, just got the hang of it and then, no sound. :rolling: Soft reset - no good, reluctant hard reset - no joy.

Phoned Dell, went through it all again, and now they're sending me a new one - no questions.

Has any one else had this problem?

Is it likely to be software or hardware?

Most important of all, if it does not ship with A06, should I upgrade or wait until the 'proper' release later in the year?

I would upgrade to A06 right away. I have and its very stable, increases battery length and increases the speed of the unit. Not sure why just reporting my experience. the CF/SD card loss is still there but the AS fix (trick) works 100%.

Does it work with headphones? Trying plugging in headphone and removing it to see if its bad contacts.

Yah that's a good point. My Palm device did that once. Fortunately I read that that particular model was notorious for messing up in the headphone jack area. Still, you're getting a replacement so it's all good. I hope it isn't delivered with a huge dent like mine was. Lucky for them I don't mind so long as it works.

Yep, did hard and sofr reset.

Tried the headphone idea, IT WORKED, and then a few hours later it went again, headphones in and out, OK again, and then it stopped AGAIN. Defo a problem with the headphone socket. New one on its way.

All that setting up to do AGAIN.

Thanks for help guys

do a backup and then restore it on your new one, as long as it is the same ROM, it will work fine.

I have the headphone jack problem. With the headphone plugged in, if you rotate the jack the sound goes on and off again. You have to be careful it does not move when listening to audio or video. I did live chat troubleshooting with Dell and they are going to send me a new unit this week. I was wondering, I dont have any backup software other than using Activesync, what would be the best way to backup my system info.
I also have not updated to the lastest ROM A06. I used A04 with the fake server and really have not had any problems other than that stated above. Thanks in advance for the info.

Have you ever noticed if someone calls you a "monkey", its an insult, but if they say you came from a monkey thats "science"?

You will probably get a refubished one with A06 installed. I did, but I had other problems with my first one.

I've just posted this last night. The problem is about a latch inside the headphone jack getting stuck. Basically your PDA still "thinks" there is a headphone plugged in therefore switch off the main speaker.
Hard reset or soft reset will not fix this problem.

You can try to plug the headphone in and take it out couple of times see if you can get the latch to pop loose again. In my case I couldn't get it to work with many tries. I requested a overnight replacement and I should get the new one tomororw morning. Let's just hope the later production have fixed this problem.

Nope, You'll get your replacement but you'll probably have to send your's in first.

I'm willing to bet that almost everyone with this problem use headphones with a straight jack instead of an angled one.

I am not sure why would there be a difference in the types of the jack. In fact, I was using an angled jack when I broke mine. I put it in in the morning, listened music on my way to work, during work and on the way back. After I get home and take out the jack the spearker stopped working.
