Sometimes when I try to save a word document, it says I don't have enough memory in my main memory or on my memory card. I have over half of my main memory free and about 1.95 gigabytes free on my SD card.
I'm not sure how to reproduce it; I've only used it for lecture notes about 4 times, and I've had the problem twice now. It happened once when I saved the document about halfway through, and then tried to overwrite that file with the updated version. That time, I tried to save it under a different name and in a different location so it wouldn't overwrite, but it kept happening. The first time I think I was just trying to save a previously unsaved document normally.
I didn't lose my data because I copied everything to my clipboard, discarded the document, opened a new one and pasted it in, then saved. That worked fine...
Anyone have this problem or know what's up? I'm a little nervous about having to copy all that work to the clipboard and essentially deleting the original file to get this to work, not to mention it's very inconvenient.
I just updated to ROM version A06 and have not had any other problems.
I wonder if your problem is related not to Axim or Word but rather programs are not closing properly in the back ground or insufficient temp/swap area to process the request.
If it happens again, I would suggest you check to see what other programs are running in the background. This might help you determine the root cause. I have seen similar type of error with word on desktop PC.
I had the same problem twice a couple nights ago. I had used Bluetooth to send a whole category of memos over from my Palm Zire 72. It shows up on the Axim as all in one long text file, with lines of "simple separator" text between them. Then I would cut it apart, using copy and paste, and recreate a lot of little Word files out of it, saving them with appropriate names on the Axim. I had been doing this for a couple days, and all of a sudden it wouldn't save one of the files, saying I had run out of memory. But I, like you, checked and still had better than half my X51v's memory empty.
I started saving them to an SD card for a few files, and then got away from that chore for the rest of the evening. Since then, I have not re-experienced this. I have no idea what was going on.
If you hear of a fix or something, please let me know. I'll reciprocate.
That might be a very good idea! One thing that I don't like is the fact that a lot of apps on the Axim refuse to close when you "close" them. I have looked and seen quite a few running when there should have been none. That might have been what happened to me.
RE: >> One thing that I don't like is the fact that a lot of apps on the Axim refuse to close when you "close" them.
One thing I DO like is the fact that a lot of apps on the Axim refuse to close when you "close" them. I like the fact that the Axim does multi-tasking, and that the last app I used is still in memopry ready for rapid re-use.
One thing I DON'T like is you aren't given the option of whether you want to close or minimize. Unless you install for-pay software, that is. It's also a pain that the Switcher Bar doesn't start on boot and there's no obvious way to make it do so (there's probably a reg hack for this, but I haven't had time to look yet). If that worked properly then multitasking wouldn't be reliant on something that is clearly the equivalent of the close button on all other Windows OSes.
Okay. I had a "hard-reset" this morning when I was trying to open a MS Word Document that was put into the handheld folder for syncing. Well, it locked up and the screen went "whacko". I had to do a hard-reset and then the PC wouldn't recognize it.
Has anyone else experienced this?? How can I save a file in MS word and still have the table? I tried saving it as HTML, but then it won't open either.
The hard-reset is a pain in the #$)U%#)U since I had to re-load all the software.

Not happy with your Ax huh? Don't panic, we'll help you tame the beast. ;)

Resco File Explorer for PPC. They do offer a trial version, and you can continue to use the basic functions after the trial has expired... one of which being the ability to set your device to close the windows when you hit x. Or you can use the drop arrow located under the x to choose which processes you want to close. :-)

Nope, I'm blissfully happy with the Axim except for the BT. I'm less than thrilled, however, with the implementation of WM5 and software problems, but I've gotten some programs to help me deal with that. The good ones I've tried (Resco, SPB Today, PocketBreeze) aren't freeware. Anyway, again, I just don't have time to figure out how to do every dang thing WM5 should already do automatically or at least customizably.
To get back on topic, I've had some success with this:
Try to save in .rtf. Then, it will often let you save a .doc too right after that. I haven't noticed any difference between the rtf and doc formats but I haven't used any graphics. I guess save both ways and discard the rtf, or just use the rtf if you're just saving rich text.
As a side note, precautionary saving before you're done writing the doc seems to augment the problem's rate of incidence. It saves fine the first time but won't resave.
I just had the same problem today while out on a job site. I could not save a word document, it says I don't have enough memory in my main memory or on my memory card. I have over half of my main memory free and about 3/4 free on my SD and CF card. Needless to say I lost the document and had to write it on paper. What could be the problem? I am using Battery Pro and Magic Button Version 2.0
Just closed all my programs running except word and opened an exisiting document. Made some changes to the document and then went to save as to save it under a different name and I got "Not enough memory to save the document. Please delete files or insert a storage card."
I have had similar problems with Word files not closing properly. Sometimes I get the memory full error msg and sometimes it just hangs. No idea why or how to solve. I use Magic Button so I don't keep many programs open. There is plenty of memory.
