WSOD when placed in/removed from cradle
Hi all,
I have read much and my Axim 51V arrived yesterday.
I have ROM 06 and activ sync 4.1 installed from download.I did not place the 4.0 on CD.
I did the exchange server fix for the Out of Cradle issues but my problems seem to lie in the taking in and out of the cradle WSOD.
Is there something specific I am missing?
It is happening less than yesterday but I still had to do 2 soft sets and at one point my icons got all corrupted looking like horizontal black and white lines.
I have not installed much. Resco explorer and a TCPMP
181.22MB Sorage free and 27.95 MB Program free.
Thanks, Dorothy

just curious, but for those who are getting the WSOD, is the axim on or off when putting it in the cradle. I have the X50v with WM5 and have had the WSOD before but i found when i turn the axim on THEN put it in the cradle its fine. this may have been said before but i just thought id ask if anyone else noticed this

I've found that my Axim X51V A04 will WSOD whenever I plug it in with WiFi on but the Axim off. If I turn on the Axim before I plug it in, or if I turn off WiFi before I plug it in, no WSOD.:rolling:

Thanks. I had suspected there might be a Wi-Fi tie in but could not get a consistent error to happen. You're probably right and I appreciate the advice and suggestions of what to look for.
I am exhausted from this little gadget ;-)

I have never had the WSOD putting my X51v into cradle, on or off. BUT...just for kicks I tried it after enableing wi-fi, turning it off and then putting in the cradle. Bingo...WSOD! Must be a new microsoft feature.
Dorothy, I got mine three weeks ago. I was exhausted for a while too.

let me try to explain to you guys/gals, those that have posted previously ... ;)
#1/ your device is NOT off ...it is only in suspend/standby mode .
#2/ to wake up from stanby with wifi ... there's process involved to re-establish internet connection ( or the wifi is trying to )...therefore...by docking the device at that moment, there will be conflict processes...that's why you get WSOD.
let me try to paint a clearer picture...
on my laptop ( with wifi on )...when I close the lid ( putting it in standby/suspend).... once I reopen the lid... you will notice the icon down by the clock will be working trying to re-establish an IP address...etc.. ( it will take some time ... sometimes under 10 sec. ...sometimes more )... during this "re-establish" process... things might be sluggish...NO internet connection yet...etc.
either turn it ON/OFF completely ...or let it come out of suspend fully ...it's like you waking up groggy !...give it time.!
Your PPC works the same ( coming out from suspend/standby with wifi ) !!!...and during this time, if you dock the device...there will be conflict processes !!!
another important thing is...
when docked...your device is going through your desktop as a NETWORK connection.... and when using WIFI...your device is using an IP from your router ... 2 completely different routes. Either one or the other...not both !!! ... once docked...it will attempt to cut off the WIFI connection ( a MS WM5 feature...NO SYNC via WIFI ) ... therefore...when you just comming out from suspend w/WIFI ...and docked right away.. think of the processes involved....conflict galores !!!
and here's why I said you're in suspend mode ...
/ to turn device off...you have to hold the power button for a few sec. and you WILL get a prompt warning that your device will be completely OFF ...you have to tap "OK" after that.
if you did not get this prompt & are only quick press of the power button ..the device is only going into suspend/standby !!!
there is a difference between OFF & STANDBY ... please take a notice of the info above ;)

I had set the power button to turn off and yes when I totally stopped the Wi-Fi by putting a STOP on it, the WSOD went away.
I know activ sync will not sync over wi-fi so I suspected it shutting on and off caused issues too.
Wi-Fi also kept cutting out and 2x I had severe visible video corruption with lines across screen and icon corruption. That was the final straw. I actually got a headache.
I gave up and emailed Dell and they are sending UPS to pick it up.
I cannot go through this even at 40% off.
I'll revisit this type of product when they work things out.
It's a lovely looking unit when it works but I need a solid unit for a few hundred dollars.
This is a great site and being a computer lover I shall stay
tuned in. I've learned a lot!
Dorothy
