I'm new to this- have downloaded the A06 to my laptop, but can not get it to open and run from the site. Any ideas - I'm running firefox and have removed IE6 months ago from my system - will I need to re-load that in order to get it to be accessible to my x51v Axim? Currently it has the old A01 on it.
the link you're having trouble clicking ( to start to installation ) is an EXE file that has been extracted & is placed inside a newly created folder ( I can't remember the name ) ... I think it's "DELL" ( someone correct me if I'm wrong ).
or just pay attention under your C: drive for a newly created folder ..and go in there & look for the EXE file ... double click it to start the upgrade process ;)
If I remember correctly, Firefox downloads files directly on your desktop by default, unless you changed the setting to download your files to a specific folder. Look for the file R114959.EXE and double click it and you should be on your way.

I do believed he/she is having trouble after running the "R114959.EXE" ... what followed is the extraction process & then it open up a browser window with a link to continue.
some people find that clicking this link will do nothing ( myself included) ...so what that process did was created a new folder on your main drive ( can't recalled the name) ...and the file related to that particular trouble link is an EXE file within that folder. :)
Ok, there are some things that could go wrong...
Go as follows:
1.) Download the exe-file by selecting 'Save on Harddisk' or something like that.
2.) Find the file and run it. You will see the file in the Firefox Download history under Extras->Downloads or by pressing Ctrl-J) You can run the file from there selecting open/run
3.) If you get an error message, that the file cannot be run, the downloaded file is damaged (-> goto 1 and download again. If you use a proxy, the file may be damaged again. Try downloading per ftp to get the file. (Or using http if you used ftp the first time. Or download from a differen location e.g. work vs. home)
4.) If the file is ok, you are asked for a path to put the archived files in. (Default is C:\Dell\Drivers\...) Keep the default or chose one to your liking and make note of where the files will be put (You can enter a single dot '.' to put the files in the same directory where the archive is in.)
5.) Go to the directory choosen in 4 and run AximUpdate.exe
6.) Follow the directions on the screen
Because I use a german version of Firefox, there may be slight differences of the command. Select the one you think matches best... :)

Thanks for any help!
I'm new to this forum and have been browsing it for a couple days. So I don't know much about the Axim's. But I do know quite a bit about PC's. When you say you uninstalled ie6, did you mean that you removed the desktop link and set the default browser to Firefox or did you use uninstall? I personally use FireFox 1.5 and won't be returning to ie except for windows updates and website that don't work with FireFox. But I would never uninstall it.
If you used uninstall, here is a list of just a few of the things you can expect to go wrong:
Impacts of removing Internet Explorer from Windows
1 Many web sites are programmed to work only with Internet Explorer. For example, webmasters authoring a site may have not tested with other web browsers. Some webmasters may not be familiar with WC3 standards or taken the time to program their site so it is universally acceptable by all browsers. Probably 95% of all websites on the Internet should work with Mozilla browsers, but there it a site is not compatible it may appear distorted or inaccessible unless IE is used as a browser.
2 Windows Update (WU) requires Internet Explorer. As an alternative, you may be able to manually download security updates, but it will require more monitoring and work than letting WU handle this for you.
3 Some Anti-Virus Products require IE for updates. Live updates or automatic DAT updates used by both Norton and McAfee are built on Internet Explorer's foundation. You may be able to manually update your virus signature files but it could require more work.
4 Both removing and restoring IE is risky and difficult. IE is complex with extensive hooks built into Windows, for efficiency and functionality. Thus unplugging it from your system may impact Internet connectivity, Windows functionality, and break functionality in Microsoft Office and non-MS products.
5 IE is more than a browser, it is the foundation for Internet functionality in Windows. If you compare the install base for Internet Explorer 6 (43.5MB) to Firefox (4.5MB), it provides an indication IE is more than just a browser.
P.S. This info came from www.stopie.com/removingie/ There might also be some tools out there to help remove ie safely - but it is still a risk.
Thanks a lot to all with the keys to getting this update done!! And to the last person re: removing IE6, your right - I did not actually remove it, just have chosen Firefox as my default browser... good advice to others too!
