Won't syc after shutting down or rebooting
Hi All,
Very frustrating, have been trying to sync Axim 51V to the host computer, works perfectly on initial sync, but if computer is shut down or rebooted, it won't recognize the Axim, picks it up as detecting a wireless connection. Have been on the phone and online with
Dell support, have had tens of pages of instruction to follow, to no avail. Updated the unit with the R114959.exe, no help. Have shut off all security programs, shut off wireless connection, I am at my end. The only way I can get it to sync again is to delete any connections with the computer, uninstall active sync and reinstall, this is wearing thin.........any help out there?
I was able to sync with another computer successfully, so this is a problem with only my computer. Using a INspiron 8500, had better luck with the 99 computer, alas, not available to me on permanent basis!

this may sound stupid but have you poped th axim off the sync cable and put it back down on it? activesync did that crap to me last time i would set it in the cradle on and it syncs fine, i turn it on in the cradle it would sit there trying to find it(green orb spinning) i would have to pick it up all the way off the cradle and put it back down and wha-la synced like a chamr. annoying as all get out the first upgrade fixed it , the 2nd AS i had caused it again and 4.1 does both

Hi,
I've experienced the same anoying problem! After initial installation of ActiveSync 4.1 and connecting the PDA to the computer using the USB cradle it could easily synchronize. After shutting down the computer and rebooting it, it could not connect anymore. First I also uninstalled everything (ActiveSync) and reinstalled and it worked again. But after reboot the problem occured again. The problem can be solved by just performing a soft reset of the PDA. It seems the PDA still thinks it is connected even if the computer has rebooted. I agree this is not a very proper way of work but at least it does the trick for me. I think as I'm using a USB hub in my laptop to do the USB connection this can be the problem! I only have 2 USB ports on my laptop. I will try it out on one of them. In the ActiveSync trouble shooting documentation one can read that USB hub stuff is not the best thing to use with ActiveSync. To be further investigated. BTW, Bluetooth works fine for synchronizing with ActiveSync. (I'm using the Belkin 100m version).
Bye,
Frank

Resetting the Axim doesn't do it for me!
I've been fighting this problem as well since I first got my X51 and have performed every step in every troubleshooting website I could find. I too am using an Inspiron laptop (model 8600 though), and intend to spend a few hours on the phone today to see if Dell support has any new solutions. I'll probably have to wait for Microsoft to release a new version of ActiveSync though. Since my desktop is so old (Win98) it won't support ActiveSync 4.1, and I don't really use it anymore to begin with, I don't have any other system to try it with.

Hi,
Yes indeed the USB hub causes the problem. When I connect to a standard USB port of my laptop the problem doesn't occur anymore. Synchronization is at least done once everytime the system boots up.
That's all from me!
Bye,
Frank

Finally found my problem
Finally, found out what was causing my Axim not to sync,,,,Privacy Service from McAfee....Dell suggested Firewall and VirusScan, but not Privacy Service. Removed program from computer and now sync fine! Reinstalled Privacy and shut off AdBlocker and Pop up Blocker and still didn't work, so it must be something in the program itself. So After doing days of pages of Dell suggestions, I went back to the basic, what was on the computer that I couldn't sync with, and what wasn't on the computer I could...only difference was McAfee Privacy Service. Hopes this help someone who has been as frustrated as me! :)

Connection problem fixed - add a sticky!
:approve:
It appears that I too have solved my connection problems with ActiveSync.
My McAfee privacy service was not the culprit as the previous post.
After running Msconfig a bunch of times eliminating programs that startup a few at a time and testing the connection, I finally got it to work consistently.
In my case ( I use a Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop ) it was one of the Nvidia display programs that caused it. My display still works perfectly and since I haven't found the need to alter any settings, nothing seems to be affected.
In order to find out what each item in MSconfig actually does, you can go to
http://www.processlibrary.com and it will explain what each exec/dll does, so you can determine just how important it is to run.
This may another candidate for a sticky!

I'm also using an Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop and have a similar problem with Activesync. Do you think you could post the name of the NVidia display app that you removed from your system? That would likely save me a lot of trial and error (especially the error part). Thanks.
