dimming the LCD lower?

the lcd of the axim x51v is excellent, but i have 1 major gripe. it doesn't seem to dim low enough. i realize you can turn it all the way off, but the next best setting is absolutely blinding in low light conditions.

are there any third party software solutions to be able to dim the screen to a lower setting before turning it off? the dimmer the better. if i need to check on a schedule at 1:00am while in bed with 100% darkness and my eyes have adjusted to it... turning on the axim takes me a good while to get my eyes adjusted to it because it's so bright. (either that or torture myself and endure the pain)

You can change the screen's contrast using the reg hack here. It's not as convenient as simply allowing lower brightness levels, but from what I've seen, the brightness scale on most PPC's is hard wired so you can't get it dimmer than it wants to be.
