Hello-
I am seriously considering getting a x51. I mostly will use this for work-type scheduling, to-do list, some msword reading/editing. I need domething that will synch with Windows programs like MSOutlook. And I am willing to pay what it costs to get something that is fast. It seems like x51 will fit the bill.
Should I buy one from a local electronics store, so I have their support if something goes wrong - or will they just refer me to Dell (or to Aximsite)? what about buying straight from Dell? -does that include a better level of support?
I am glad this website is here! I am able to solve my computer problems with online help, so I think this will help me get the most out of my x51. But I am wondering about getting help with problems.
I would buy where I got the best price. This is not a repairable device so if it fails it is replacement time. Mostly retailers will replace failures in the first 60 days, the dell warranty will be 1 year or more. In fact if you complain enough about some problem dell will just replace it. I know a guy who had his X50 replaced by dell because the GPS software kept loosing its voice.
Dell in general sell all of their products either online or by phone. There are only a few places (e.g., Costco) that might carry their products, so it is unlikely you will be able to pick one up in a local electronics store (unlike HP products). Regardless of where you purchase your device, the level of support will be the same and via email/phone/chat.

I own a X51 and regret buying it. I cannot return it despite the fact that it does not operate properly. Synching can be a nightmare at times. I have to soft reset every day which Dell blames on Windows and says a fix is coming. Again Dell support of this product is useless at best.
Wherever you get it, do the fake server trick immediatly. If not, then you'll be doing soft resets all the time. Bluetooth may be limited to GPS, and Internet access by Bluetooth phone, but no bluetooth headset. Great unit, all things considered. :)
From my expirience Costco is a good choice. My X51v at the beginning was pretty bad - many soft resets, dropping CF card from what I hear here I'm still affraid to try BT with it and many other problems - dell support did NOTHING, but Costco got me 3yrs warranty in price so anytime this baby will broke on me or I will have no more strength to struggle with it I'm going to Costco warehouse return X51v and they will give me money back with no problems. So good luck with your purchase!!!

If you want something fast forget it. Whether it is the hardware or WM 5.0 is irrelevant, the combination is dead slow; my old iPaq 3850 is twice as fast!
As far as Dell support is concerned - useless; so bad I now regret buying from them at all. 5 years ago their support was legendary, but like all good things it has come to an end! Look elsewhere, I am, Fujitsu Look or Acers or Palms are now on my wish list.
