Since Upgrading To The Latest Rom Version A06 (from The Dell Web Site) The Following Occurs:
Power Shuts Down - Need To Do Soft Reset
Search - Doesn't Find Contacts, Etc
Reminder Of Appointments - Doesn't Work
SD Card - Sometimes Can't Read - Error
Contacted Dell - They Are Aware - They Are Awaiting New Rom Upgrade From Microsoft
Also Avantgo Doesn't Have Vga Screen Set Up - Interim Upgrade In Jan. Full Upgrade Available Later This Year?
Has Anyone Else Experienced These Same Problems/other?
The Dell Is A Great Unit, As I Am A Long Time User Of Pocket Pc, But This Latest Version Is Very Frustrating!!
have never seen these two: Power Shuts Down - Need To Do Soft Reset, SD Card - Sometimes Can't Read - Error - I do have an 1G SD card and I never take it out. It is a PNY also it has never disappeared.
I have my doubts about this one "Reminder Of Appointments - Doesn't Work" This seems to work unless I miss them, I can't remember.... Sometimes when I go the unit there are reminders for yesterday, didn't I go that?

I Think It Was Released Way Too Early!!
A06 is not perfect, but you are seeing some things that have not been mentioned here before.
The "soft reset" problem can happen after certain 3rd party apps are installed, especially ones that have Today screen plug-ins. This is common among all WM5 PPCs.
The Search and Appointment thing -- haven't heard that. Works fine on my Axim, must be a configuration issue.
The SD card "error" is also not common. The cards have 'disappeared' for some users, but no error. Maybe your card is bad, or needs to be formatted.
The AvantGo problem has nothing to do with Dell or WM5. It is a 3rd party application that hasn't been updated to support VGA screens. You'll see the same problem on the x50v running WM2003.
You will find great benefit in searching through the threads, and getting more familiar with WM5 and PocketPCs in general.
__________________ Dell Support Rep on 1/12/06: Only a small number of users are having issues (WM5 on x50v)... Dell will be releasing (update for x50v) but it will not be soon.

I experienced the same exact thing you are experiencing since moving to A06 from A01.
Never had these issues (except for missing SD cards, twice only) with A01 and I didn't even have to do the active-sync tweak.
After upgrading, the active-sync tweak is a must because I started experiencing the same symptoms you mentioned.
All softwares installed on A01 are exactly the same softwares I am using with A06 except for the Ipaq Nav System which I didn't install on A06 since I decided this is not the PPC I want to be carrying around.

I never had any of these issues in A01 or A06. I do not run much "plug-in" type software either. I wonder if you might be running some software that could have compatibility issues with WM5?
ERROR - Player: MPEG4 AAC Audio decoder not included! It was removed from the offical install package because of intellectual property considerations.
Thanks
The question and my reply is a bit off topic, but it sounds like you are referring to a problem with TCPMP. If that is the case, then check out the following link to get an explanation of what the error means: http://www.corecodec.com/index.php?o...0&topic=1790.0
Yes after the A06 ROM ws installed all of the troubles that I listed still persist. In conversation with Dell Technical Service they are aware of the same problems as expressed by Axim users and indiacted that Microsoft is working on a new ROM Version to fix/remedy.
On another note, have any of you lost the Dialogue Box on Active Sync 4.1 on your desktop? I cannot seem to find mine - it dissapeared a long time ago.

You mention "the active-sync" tweak............ can you please expand. I'm a new X51v user (think the ROM is A01 from what I read in the Settings) and can't get ActiveSync to pick up the device (either 4.0 that it came wtih or 4.1 that I saw the upgrade for...)

Hi Mike,
Just click this to go directly to the sticky thread which covers problems like missing CF/SD cards, battery drain, and White Screen of Death. It is the recommended tweak for owners of the X51 series. I however don't think it will help you with Activesync not being able to discover your device. Try disabling your firewall. By the way, welcome to aximsite.
The x51v still has problems:
1. Intermittant "no connection" to SD card
2. Needs soft-reset to start after night's charge
3. Tweak2k2 incompatibility (I have a fix if anyone needs it)
4. Resco File Explorer and Registry Explorer "find" utility never finds anything
Some of these problems have fixes on the x50 board. Anyone seen fixes for the x51?
I have never seen any of those problems. I just used Resco Find and it worked fine. Except for #3 never tried that. I did do the fake server trick and it did fix the battery drain when sleeping....
If you need a soft reset after a nights charge, sounds like some program you have installed is messing up. Much like the activesync without the "fix". The only time I do a soft reset is when a program goes south. Usually its my fault, like I am playing a game and I get upset and there is no way to quickly get out so I push the power button and walk away. When I get back and push the power button again I will get the slow system or white screen.
