whats eating my memory?

I have an X51v, the specs for ram is 64mb. If I look at the memory utility and it tells me i have 49mb with 24mb in use. I have no apps running. If The os is using the 15mb from 49 to 64, what is using the rest? If the os is not using the 15mb then where has that memory gone?

This happens to me all the time too. I know it is just a memory leak, but it is annoying. I just have to do a soft reset. But even fresh I have about 25-30 percent used.

Did you buy the device for it not to use the memory?
Are you having memory problems? Or is it using memory correctly?

Surely you want the device to use all the RAM, as that is quicker than the ROM where the programs are installed? So it should use ALL the RAM, as long as it releases "unused" RAM when something else needs to use it.

Hello,

This isn't a very popular opinion, BUT its the Operating System, I've worked with mine since last October, it doesn't get any better, can't run alot of software, especially if you want to multi-task, must close apps or soft reset to get your memory back, many times closing apps doesn't work, the memory doesn't come back, got to be the OS. Hopefully the new update will help.

Take Care,
Jim

A program that may help is called Where Is My RAM, or WIMR for short. Its a shell *.exe program w/o install. I use on my 2003se, dunno if it works w/ WM5.

I realise ram will be used, but not 40mb on nothing but the os.

thanks for the app link. Will try. It may provide some clues. A soft reset does help!

I'm pretty sure that the graphics chip uses 16 MB of the RAM (Hence the reason the memory manager says you only have 50 MB of RAM.

Have you looked at your voice recorder. I was losing all kinds of memory come to find out when my wife and my daughter were playing games on it they would hit the record button and record nothing until it filled up my ax. Just a shot in the dark but worth a try.

Later Dave

31 meg free is about the best you're going to get with the x51v. Don't ask me where the other 33 megs go; I haven't a clue. The only app that I have that I know leaks memory is Opera 8.5 beta. I use it pretty heavily and my free memory drops down to 25 meg free in about 1 to 2 weeks.

Its not the memory monster, its most definatley gremlins. You see, you need to turn on bluetooth to keep all of the gremlins on the cf card, which is why it dissappears every now and then.

memory problems

hi,
This might help. I turned on my axim x51 today and it posted a warning that my memory was full. I went to the memory gauge and it read 76.13 of 76.16 was being used. I deleted a calender appt then some temp files and now I was at 76.12 of 76.16. Finally after reading some of the above posts I checked out the recorder and found a 50 + min inadvertent recording. I deleted that and now have 65.39 free mb's. It is easy to press the record button inadvertently.
