From what I've read, the white labeled drives are OEM and intended for embedded devices. The orange labeled drives are retail, intended for photo storage and will work in other devices such as PDA's. If your drive has a white label, you are out of luck. Return it or exchange it for a retail drive because you are never going to get it to work. If the drive has a orange label and doesn't work, try viewing/ reformatting it in a card reader. If it still won't be recognized you might have a defective drive that needs replacing. FWIW, my orange labeled Seagate 8GB drive worked fine in my x51v right out of the package, no format needed.
