X51v won't recoqnize Seagate St1 5gig Microdrive

Just recieved a Seagate St1 5gig microdrive only to find that my X51v doesn't see it. I tested my Axim by inserting a small CF card....worked fine...my 1gig sd card works well. Did multiple soft resets and a hard reset to try to get my Axim to see the microdrive with no success. In the mean time contacted the company for a replacment. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are micro drives that are made specific for non pda devices just as they are made for pda devices. There are several threads on this site that mention problems with these type of non pda devices. I suggest you do a search of this site and read what you fine. If your micro drive is a non pda device you may wish to return it and see if who you got it from supplies a micro drive that is made to function with pda's.

If you see a firmware revision number on the drive ... it will not work. Versions without the v3.14 firmware work great.

It does have FW 3.14. I ordered it from www.computergeeks.com. Sent a message to them last night concerning the drive and my request for a replacment that works with my Axim...sofar they haven't responded.

I have the same problem but my drive doesn't seem to have any firmware on it at all , nothing will read itor even see it ? I have been told if I put it in a creative zen 5 and download the latest firmware to the player it will work on anything. I don't know anyone with one of these players at the moment . I have also come across a site for "exdrive" this works on this x51 as far as seeing the drive but it still won't run
the drive as yet

The X51V should recognize it right away if the drive is not damaged or of the firmware mentioned above. There is no additional application necessary for it to work. I have a Seagate 8gb microdrive. My Axim and PC recognized the drive right out of the package.

I also just got my Seagate ST1 5gb that my X51v does not see. I am trying all possible ways and contacted Dell but no reply yet. If you get yours to work, will you please let me know how you did it. I'll let you know if I am able to find a solution to mine.

Thanks.

I had contacted Dell some time ago regarding microdrives for my x51v, Dell replied that x51v will work with 2gb CFs or SDs, but they have no support for the use of higher capacity cards yet.

From what I've read, the white labeled drives are OEM and intended for embedded devices. The orange labeled drives are retail, intended for photo storage and will work in other devices such as PDA's. If your drive has a white label, you are out of luck. Return it or exchange it for a retail drive because you are never going to get it to work. If the drive has a orange label and doesn't work, try viewing/ reformatting it in a card reader. If it still won't be recognized you might have a defective drive that needs replacing. FWIW, my orange labeled Seagate 8GB drive worked fine in my x51v right out of the package, no format needed.
