amber light flashes when X50 in cradle
Hi,
I've had an axim x50 for little over a year. When I place the pda in the cradle, instead of a steady amber light indicating that the battery is low and is now charging, I get only a amber flashing light (which when the unit is not in the cradle, indicates that that the battery is low). The unit continues to be in sleep mode even after being in the cradle 24 hours, showing only the periodic amber light while in the cradle. Does this mean the battery is dead and I need to buy a new one? (I had to buy a new 3rd party cradle for my Axim, when the original broke one month out of warranty- I'm presuming this isn't the problem.)
If the battery is dead, how do I charge it without losing all my data on my pda, since the backup battery lasts for only 30 minutes according to the manual?
Thanks, Gregg

Backup your data using the backup program. Store the backup file in your built-in storage. Anything stored in the built in storage does not get deleted if you run out of power.

I have seen some funny things happen with the various lights that are supposed to flash or stay on under the power button. I know this sounds lame, but you could try doing a soft reset - that could clear out whatever the Axim thinks is going on and start you on a new page. Additionally, try charging the Axim in the cradle while it is on or you could charge the battery for about 20 minutes in the cradle - not attached to the axim - then put it in the Axim and continue charging. This might allow the battery to gain a little more charge in the first 20 minutes so it doesn't think it has low energy the rest of the time.
Just some ideas :)
One last thing, make sure that you don't have any reminders from your calendar, etc. I know that should be a GREEN flashing light, but come on, we all know funny things happen.
Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. As far as backup is concerned, the Axim doesn't even power on for me to do this- it appears to be in sleep mode. I tried to sync it with my computer to hopefully backup my info onto it and that didn't work. Oddly enough, after I did this, the blinking amber light on the Axim turned to the constant amber light. When I returned it to the cradle, it remained this constant amber light. I have been charging it the last 36 hours, the constant amber light remains and the Axim still won't turn on.
I tried to sync it again with the computer just now- This time the light is green when connected to the computer, remains amber when connected to the cradle, but won't turn on when connected to the computer, the cradle or standing alone. I've tried a soft reset but that didn't seem to help. Maybe the problem now is to somehow get it out of sleep mode.
I'm not quite certain how you charge the battery alone in the cradle. The 3rd party cradle I bought when Dell's one broke doesn't have a battery input/receptor.

Well, after fiddling around with the Axim some more, I finally got it to power up. And the battery light shows green when in the cradle. So everything's back to normal. Thanks for the suggestions.
What is the source of the built-in storage (the Axim or my computer)?- neither the manual nor Help on the Axim itself explain this.
Thanks, Gregg

What did you do?
Hello Gregg,
I'm experiencing the same symptoms with my Axim. What are some of the things that you did when you were fiddling it around?
Thanks!

I had the same on my X51v.. It turned out to be a bad battery that would not take a charge. Replaced the battery and all was well again....

Hi adoorion,
I don't remember the particular order of things that I did, but I sort of rotated between doing the following: plug the Axim into my computer with the computer on and pressed the Axim's on/off button (I did this a couple of times; this was with a unpowered cord interface between the Axim and computer; I took the battery in and out a couple of times; I put PDA in the plugged-in cradle and pressed the on/off button; finally, I did a soft reset a few times.
Hope something works!

thanks for all of the suggestions. I can't seem to get it to work on my laptop, I'll probably have to wait until I get off the road and try it with the cradle on my desktop. Thanks for all of you help!
