A friend of mine had me help with the set up and install of software of their x51v. First off, WM Player locked up when attempting to play a WMV file from the CF card.
Okay I thought, just install Core Player and we will be good to go. Did it-- now it doesn't lock up it just totally SUCKS. I cannot believe that DELL allowed this to be released. An OS that is WORSE than prior released OS. My x50v runs circles around this 'Newer' Axim.
I've kept up on the posts and frustrations from x51v owners, but now having experienced it myself all I can say is IMMEDIATELY RETURN your x51v. TELL DELL how bad this latest version really is.
I've done all the tweaks I can to the x51v to get everyone ounce of processing power and memory maximization, and still it is totally pathetic.
DELL if you are listening, this x51v is your Millenium Edition OS attempt. Suck it up, take your lumps, and FIX IT IMMEDIATELY.
I totally support the upset masses out there that have been swindled by this 'improvement'.
I am totally happy with my x50v, but I feel your pain x51v owners.

The X51v plays supported video types fine. I am watching movies / Firefly episodes etc all the time on my X51v from my SD card and it never hangs.
I mainly use the TCPMP player for video and Windows Media for music.
All these posts complaining about the X51 / WM5 are giving a wrong steer to people. The X51v is a great device with a few annoying problems & these are slowly clearing up with each rom upgrade.
I have not issues, after the tweaks to avoid activesynch problems. I watch videos, family, from my CF card using TCPMP and listen to podcasts and music from the same card with MortPlayer. All is fine with me. I am sorry for your problems but It maight be your unit and not the x51v at large. I know some people had theirs replaced. Why don't you try to get a replacement? I hope you manage to solve the issues and get to enjoy your x51v.

Did anyone ever stop to think that it is not the hardware that is the problem and realize maybe it is a user related issue?
I have had my x51v for three months and the only problem I have EVER had with it is when I screw it up. When my x51v acts screwy, I know it is either something I did or something that I installed. You know how I know this? Because it worked perfectly fine out of the box. You also need to look into the comparisons between the x50 and the x51 series. They may look alike but they are actually quite different than one another.
I am tired of people bashing the x51v or any other Axim for that matter just because they can't figure out how to get it to do what they want it to do. Quit crying and figure it out.

No the problem is not people complaining about WM5. Its users like you who obviously don't use their Pocket PC or have knowledge to the extent of the ones that are complaining. The fact is, Dell's implementation of WM5 is awful. To release a device like the x51 (a high end Pocket PC) with Bluetooth and no support for headsets is unbelievable. The only thing worse so far, has been their support. I seriously can't recomend anyone buy a Dell.
I've posted this before, maybe I will add it to my signature. My X51v performs flawless and orders of magnitued better than any desktop PC I have ever seen or used. I sit right next to a guy who owns an X50 and he does a hard reset a week and is continiously bitching about how he can not get the backups to work.
Only a moron would expects things to work perfectly. Someone less than that would believe Dell took out working BT profiles cause they thought it was a good Idea.

These issues are a fact:
- Its sluggish
- The compaction thread maxes out the cpu load
- CF and SD cards disapear (it may depend on type and brand, but it was never an issue with Windows Mobile 2003 devices)
- Bluetooth sucks
- Battery Drain issues (probably due to third party software)
- Upgraded x50v can't do VGA out
- Where has all the RAM gone?
- Software compatibility problems
- GAPI performance sucks on x51v (Just as it did when Dell released the x50v. It took the comunity to fix GAPI with the x50v, so I guess Dell expects us to pick up the pieces again)
I really wanted to run WM5 on my Dell Axim x50v and have installed it a few times and tried out the latest tweaks on Aximsite.
I like the softkeys, I like the way it looks, I like the improved Word and Excel and the adition of Power Point.
But, I use Softick Card Export alot and it doesn't work fully yet with WM5. I use VGA alot and it doesn't work on the upgraded x50v. My sd card never disappeared, but my Microdrive did on ocation. I like to game, but compatibility and performance is terrible with Dell's GAPI driver. I have a bluetooth headset and headphones which don't work on Dell's WM5 Pocket PCs. The CPU would periodically get maxed out at 624 MHz and the Pocket PC would get very sluggish. For me WM5 was useless, everytime I went back to 2003SE it always amazes me how much faster and smother and better it is.
I'm tired of people like you who obviosly don't know what their talking about saying it's perfectly fine because when you use it for fifteen minutes every moring to check your calender and your address book it works. If you actually used it, you would notice these problems. I just hope no one reads your post and is convinced to buy the piece of sh*t.

Er how shall i say this.
YOU POSTED THIS IN THE WRONG THREAD.
this one is about the X51V not an upgraded X50V. performance seems to be difference due to the combination of different memory technology and updated firmware.
Yeah, Your so smart you can't even get your models straight. Maybe that is why you are having so many problems. Are you sure your not trying using the Toaster as a PDA.
The Post was the X51 sucks not X50 with a WM5 upgrade. Whose full of Sh**?
I've had my X51v (NOTE THE MODEL JACKA$$) since Nov. NEVER ONCE HARD RESET, HAVE ONLY SOFT RESET BECAUSE OF 3RD PARTY PROGRAMS, NEVER ONCE LOST THE SD CARD, BT ACTIVSYNC TO MY LAP TOP EVERY DAY, TRANSFER FILES BETWEEN TWO CELL PHONES AND LAP TOP VIA BT IN ALL DIRECTIONS. NO UNEXPLAINED POWER DRAINS, NO WHITE SCREENS, NOTHING BUT VGA. I DEPEND ON IT FOR WORK, MEETING, NOTES, RECORDER, WORD AND EXECEL. BTLTV IS GREAT, HANDBASE IS BUGGY BUT COST EFFECTIVE. IT LOADS THIS PAGE FASTER THAN MY 2GIG DESKTOP, IT LOAD EVERYTHING FASTER THAN MY LARGE CORPORATE IT MAINTAINED WORK STATION AT WORK. DON'T TELL ME I DON'T USE IT. YOU SIR ARE THE ONE THAT S#$KS!
Wow, I guess you are NOT satisfied with your toy!!! I am brand new to the list and PocketPC's in general. Hope to get up to speed with playing with my toy, I hope I do not get as frustrated with it as you appear to be though I will probably be one of those people who do not know what they are talking about. Starting my second cup of coffee so happiness is setting in :) .
