DOn't knowif this helps, but I have all sorts of problems with work PC.
Mine was eventually sorted by actually turning on the USB ports. They were turned off somehow to stop people using USB keys as they are strict on installations here.
APologies but I cannot remember how I did it and I now have a new pc, but look at your system profile to see if the ports are acually activated.
Did you disable all firewalls on the Win2k machine?
Did you plug your cradle directly into the computer, not into a USB hub connected to the computer?
I have Win2K Server on my home computer and although it was more difficult getting AS4.1 to work on it than it was on my office laptop running Windows 2003 server, I still have been able to sync on both of them.
There are many posts that contain a link to a Microsoft web page which describes how to overcome some of the common problems with AS and get it to sync.
Thanks for your suggestions everyone. However here are my replies..

I think I am behind my company's firewall, so I don't see any firewall protection within my PC.

I tried sticking it in all my USB ports. Nothing happens.
