X51 Compact Flash timing issues

Hi
As you may know the Axim X51 with Windows Mobile 5.0 suffers from compact flash timing issues especially around I/O bus timing and this is why some compact flash cards are not recognised.

The CF/PCMCIA standard states that the I/O read strobe should be 165ns. When running WM5, the read strobe is only 125ns wide. The cause of these problems is the ROM image in the PDA.

Does anyone know if Dell is going to fix this issue with a ROM upgrade (from the A05 version)?

That would be really nice - haven't heard anything about it. I would assume that you have applied the fixes some people have posted?

Hello thedakr and lawman and thank you for your replies.

Dell did replace the X51 after much moaning on my part and now some cards (including those that use the Elan chip) do function, though others do not.

Elan are aware of this issue and their support is fantastic but there is little they can do until Dell / HP / Microsoft fix this properly and I guess they know about the issues even more now (based on some of the other threads I have seen).
