Connect to internet via Activesync

After searching the internet, trying a number of suggestions and calling Dell support, I am still not able to get my Axim x51v to connect to the internet while it is docked in the cradle.

I can access the internet at home and other places via the wireless connection, but there is not wireless connection at my office. I would like to be able to connect in order to access Pocket Weather, web based email, etc. The Dell support technician was not that helpful and thought that MS may have disabled the ability to use a desktop computer as a pass through for Windows Mobile 5.0. He also suggested I do a hard reboot, which seemed extreme to me.

I have tried "sharing" my desktop connection and briding the connection between the PPC and my network. All that happened was that ActiveSync wouldn't sync anymore.

Any suggestions???

In activesync
Tools>Options> Rules Tab
Under the Pass Through heading, change the setting to Internet.

Works on Activesync 3.8 with WM2003.

That options is not avialable with Activesync 4.1, which is required for WM 5.

In your PC, AS, file, connection settings, you can opt for internet in v4.1. Works for me.

Mine hasn't exactly the same problem. The IE can't connect via activesync (nither ther pocketrss), but Opera works fine. Also Pocket Weather connects fine.
I thougth it was a problem with some programs only, but now I'm not sure

My corp IT does not allow internet sharing. The firewall on my desktop will not permit it and I do not have privlege to change it. My guess is that might be your problem. If you can turn off the firewall on your desktop then try again.

There really is not much of anything to setup on the X51v. Sounds like you have the setups done already.

We don't have local firewalls running on the PC's, it is a central one, so that may be the problem. As I can't change any of that, I may be out of luck.

I have tried to initiate "internet sharing" on my Desktop PC and although it allows it to turn on, immediately ActiveSYNC will not Sync up. As soon as I remove sharing, ActiveSync restarts. Very weird.

It might be worth trying the new V4.2 beta of ActiveSync. That includes some changes around the use of Proxy servers while using pass-thru through the desktop PC (make sure you have a copy of V4.1 if you need to go back again).
