Hi,
I am planning t keep the GSM compact flash card so that I can use it as mobile also
From the what can I do with my axim tutorail,
it is given:
4. Using a CompactFlash GSM/GPRS or 1xRTT card: If you have a SIM card from a GSM cell phone provider, you can insert it into a CompactFlash GMS/GPRS card (e.g., Convergentech, Enfora, Audiovox) to turn your Axim into a device with wireless phone capability. CDMA subscribers can use a CF 1xRTT card to provide their Axim with CDMA data service. Keep in mind, however, that this would not be a practical cell phone replacement because of battery limitations
did any one try this ? which manufacture is better? what wil be the approx price f this. please let me know
While this solution will work, I just use my bluetooth enabled cell phone to accomplish the same thing. I think its more effective battery wise than using a CF card.

I too have a GSM/GPRS CF card, an Audiovox RTM-8000 which my brother gave me. While its a nice idea, as coolbre304 pointed out, its a waste of battery power on the Axim. A few years ago when IR was the only wireless way to connect your phone to your PDA or laptop, it was a good idea, but with bluetooth, these become less useful.
However, the nice thing is that it acts as a backup phone so if your mobile dies on you, you still have a means of contact until you get a new one. Also, my phone's locked to Vodafone UK, so I can only use a Vodafone SIM in there, whereas the Audiovox can accept any network (or country) SIM.
I just installed the software direct from the cabs that were on the cd. The Axim took them ok without a hitch. Plugged in the Audiovox and it worked straight away, Picked up the network, signal strength, etc. The software can be a bit flakey, SMS's don't always work, either sending or receiving. Sometimes the virtual keypad is unresponsive so you can't make or receive calls but I put all these bugs down to the software not being 100% WM5 compatible.
Does your Axim install the software ok? Maybe doing a soft reset and installing again. I copied the cabs from the cd to a temp directory on an sd card in the Axim, and installed from the device, didn't bother with installing from a host computer and activesyncing. If it helps, my Axim firmware is version A06.

Hi beavis99
Does your card work under WM5 as GPRS modem, to get Mobile Internet, not voice?

Sorry for the late reply, for some reason new messages that I've subscribed to don't appear on the main control panel page!
@tomtief
I can e-mail you the drivers if you want, just PM me an e-mail address.

The software is abit flakey under WM5, the voice part does work, but sometimes you need to shutdown the software, unplug the card, replug and restart the program to get it to work. For data, I've had it working once for a bit, using the built in dialup software in WM5, it connected and browsed for about a minute before disconnecting. Tried using the supplied software and it didn't work.
The software works perfectly on my brothers x50v, but it does have its issues under my x51v. Personally, I'd use a bluetooth connection to a mobile phone and access the net via that. I doubt Audiovox will release WM5 compatible drivers.
