You may want to consider trying Mobsync. From what I understand, its a free third party syncing program:

As a last resort you might try syncing using Bluetooth.

I think that a lot of these problems are caused by treating the activesync connection via USB as a network connection. This doesn't seem to be the case when syncing via bluetooth.

Some Success

Well, I was able synch up my new Axim at work, which is really where I need it. I'll try that MobSynch.

I finally gave up on trying to sync with the USB connection. As a Axim user since the release of the X5 I've never seen such problems with a device. I was also ready to return my new X51v, but after reading about the differences in WM5 and how it works with Activesync I realized the problem was NOT the Axim, but WM5 and Activesync. The device does look at the connection the same as a standard network connection, but the problem actually is the IP addresses it uses. (Microsoft screwed up big time with that) It uses the same IP addresses as they use for VPN sessions and that is hard to get around.

For many, it's been Firewall configurations, but for me the net result has been to use Bluetooth to sync. Activesync works, but occassionally I have to re-partner the devices.

Im still stuck, I installed 4.2 on to my computer, restart it and i get no where when i plug my axim into the cradle. I try loading active sync from my desktop, but it doesnt do anything. when i try loading from my axim it just says connecting and never connects. Do you have to install 4.2 on to the axim as well, how would you go about doing that???

I guess im just going to have to get BT for my desktop and sync using that.

I also tried mobsync, but i cant get the program to install properly. Any other suggestions??? The only way i can get stuff installed on to my sd card is by putting it in my digital camera and then going to the card through my computer.

Have you tried soft resetting before trying to sync? Also stop any running plug-ins you may have that start automatically... so basically get your Axim to a state where absolutely nothing is running besides ActiveSync and the OS. I have had software conflicts preventing me from syncing.

Outlook sync problems

Hello, I am a new Axim user and was having a sync problem with my X50v. When syncing with Activesync everything is syncing except Calendar, Contacts, and Inbox. It simply says "sync status is on the devise" for each of these. My primary concern is with Outlook Calendar in that I cannot get any of the Calendar info to sync. I'm assuming this is a relatively simple adjustment but can not figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Tom

RE: "sync status is on the devise"
This normally means that you have set the sync to be with Exchange Server, rather than with Outlook. So the device is connecting to the PC as a pass-thru facility to the Exchange server, so the PC doesn't know whether the sync is complete or not.

Try resetting the options so that they sync with Outlook on the PC (NOT Outlook Express) rather than with the Exchange server.

My X51v is two months old, and beginning yesterday (june 03) it will not connect to my PC thru the USB. I tried reinstalling ActiveSync 4.1 and turning off Windows Firewall but that did not solve the problem.
Help!

I had this happen to me once and it turned out that the connector in the cradle had gone bad and I had to replace the cradle. Unit was still in warranty and Dell cross-shipped, problem solved.

Can anyone help me, i reset my comp and the axim and nothing is working. I need to load some music on to it. Thanks
Remove both batteries from axim. Leave out for an hour. Reinstall batteries, attach synch cable to pc. Should synch or ask for new partership.
This took me two days to figure out and reading all the axim site fixes, which did not work, this did, Let me know if it worked for you.
