axtivesync connecting but no comm HELP!

Hi,
I read this post:
//************************************************** **********
First plug your PPC in the cradle and then go to Start/Control Panel/Network Connections and see if your Axim shows up as the last connection, something like "Local Area Connection 3" it should be listed as connected and shared. You should also check in Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and look under Network Adapters. If the last device shown has an error this means the correct drivers were not installed. Right click and select uninstall then remove your PPC. Reinstall AS 4.0 then restart your computer. Start activesync and select 'Get Connected' and then plug in your device.

If it still is not connecting then you need to look at your firewall. Even if you don't know you have one you probably do. Windows has one built in and Norton Internet security does also. So look at your firewall settings and make sure that Activesync allows all internet access for the following:

ActiveSync RAPI Manager

Microsoft ActiveSync (this appears twice in my firewall settings)

Oddly enough if you just allow Activesync but not the RAPI Manager 2003 devices can connect but WM5 devices cannot.
************************************************** ************//

Ok...I have windows 2000...so no firewall. the axim is in device manager network adapeter and looks ok. BUT I don't have local area connection 3 in my network connections. I just have connection 1(LAN) and connection 2(bluetooth which is off)

My axim says its connecting, but never completes the connection.
What can i do?

THanks

Call Dell and talk to a different person. But b/f you do, restart your pc and do a soft reset and try again. Has your axim ever successfully connected to your desktop?

I think that I have seen this before. l believe this is caused by confusion between the ActiveS ync configuration data between the PC and the AX IM.

Uninstall AS from your PC. Open AS on your AXIM and then select ' Options' and delete each and every machine in the list.
Reinstall AS on your PC, then cradle your AXIM and set up the sync relationship again.

I tried what you suggested below...no success. I don't understand why microsoft/dell can't get their sync thing to work. Almost everyone here has trouble with activesync.

I can't help you as I have the same problem myself and have been fighting with it for the last 2 weeks.
You could Google for Activesync problems. You get a lot of hits.
Maybe we just need a bigger hammer !!!
