No Way to Backup on ActiveSync Version 4.2

Inasmuch as there is no Backup/Restore on MS ActiveSync 4.2, what is the suggested method of backing up and restoring data? Any help would be appreciated.

Your data will remain, programs and all.

Indeed, WM5 renders backups pointless and irrelevant.

Thinking backups are not required on WM5 devices is wishful thinking. Yes, you will not lose anything if your battery goes flat, but what if your device freezes and you must hard reset? Or if you get a software-induced hard reset?

zoeydanielle, there should be a backup utility on your device itself, but most people prefer Sprite Backup or Sbp Backup because of reliability issues with the built-in utility.

if you install program your computer you should have the install program, but all your hacks and fixes you have to start them over

With WM5 I have left OS backups behind. I had a iPaq 4155 prior to my X51V and did do OS backups all of the time because of the RAM vs ROM issue. I also had many additional applications I loaded that were designed for a specific function (list maker, data base, financial tracking, etc). Upon obtaining my X51V I decided to make my PDA life simple. I moved all of my non-pda related data into a excel or word file format. This took a bit of effort and emagination to accomplish and I did loose some functionallity. This loss was however was overcome by my ability to not have to do OS backups. Today I make a copy of 'My Documents' from my unit to my SD card, sync my PIM data to my PC. I do not face issues with applications that may or may not work with my unique units set up. When a ROM change has been required (this has taken place twice because of a Dell upgrade) the reload is painless and takes me less than a half hour. For me simplicy, ROM A06 and the 'Fake Server Trick' has made my unit stable with zero issues. I have not been forced to to a soft or hard reset a single time in the last 6 months.
