A12 password screen keeps popping up

Since I installed A12 (last night), I noticed that most problems are gone.

I also noticed that my Haicom HI-305III CF GPS works now.

But I've noticed something weird. When I run Tomtom and I drive for about 15 min, the device "locks" itself and goes to the password input screen right from tomtom.

I had the "prompt if device is not used for 15min", and I've changed it to 30 min. I realize though if I drive for more than 30 min, and if there is nothing but tomtom running for that 30 min, the X51v A12 will go into the enter password screen even if the device was on for the last 30 min running tomtom.

Yeah this is a brand new problem for A12 ROM users. The device now prompts for a password every XX minutes even when powered on and cradled. This problem has been confirmed by several X51 A12 users.

The only way I know of to get around this is to disable the password "Lock" function in the settings.

On a side note - the A12 ROM did fix a lot of other problems and the Axim runs sooo much faster.

Well, it might seem like a headache but I do like the added security(to bad I have nothing really personal or valuable to guard), even though any nimwit would just Hard Reset your Axim and would not have to even mess with the Password if they just wanted to use it.

Well that's just the thing. With A06 and previous ROMs, you can still do this, except that it only locked device if you left it OFF for xx number of minutes. Now, it actually does that even if the axim is being used. I have a feeling that they made an error, and with A12, the axim forgets to "see" if there is something being used.

I am hoping that making axim ignore anything on the screen moving (such as tomtom), and registering hard keypresses or screen taps as the only sign that it is being used isn't the way Dell decided to fix the "X51v going into a coma" problem...

I've turned off the inbuilt pw screen and am using PocketLock which you can do so much more with... skinss, background pics that change, transparent locks.... only bad thing it's not free... but it's cheap and v.good :) :approve:

The main problem is that I can't turn it off

if I try to put a "blank" password it is not accepted.
I can't even change the lock time to something else than 15min...

Yeah, just want to chime in that I'm having the same issue as well. I have it set to prompt for password after 5 mins which used to work just fine when the system was off for 5 mins. Now when Navigating with Tomtom, every 5 mins the password prompt comes up, not only annoying but dangerous trying to type your password all the time while driving....... of course I could turn the security feature off, but that defeats the purpose.... doh!

i have the same problem with the password, and yesterday i saw in registry one route:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER - CONTROL PANEL - BLACKLIGHT - LOCKLEVEL.........

I supouse that the problem is in that line key, but i don't know how use the registry.

If somebody knows something more about that......

That route in the registry, only apears if you have the password screen configured and actived (for example in 1 minute)

LOL, I doubt this is a bug, I believe this is more of a feature.

If that is a feature then that feature has a bug. Imagine driving on a highway (as one member reported) and suddenly the password prompt pops up, that feature is gonna get you nowhere. Try to remedy that while driving, it's gonna get you to a hospital or worse, to a peaceful place.

As he said.... its a bug.... probably in TomTom.

WM5 has a great feature / API that an application can call to tell the device that it is busy even though the user has not touched the device for 10 minutes or more, and therefore it doesn't need to enter the "I have been idle for 10 minutes, therefore I will ask for a password" capability.

The thing even pops up in the background when I'm running spb air islands screensaver. Tapping the screen only reveals the pw screen for a split sec. Have to SR to see the screen properly to type the pw. Its a pain in the behind.
