I'm a new member and I have just discovered this site. I will be grateful for any help anyone can to extend. Thank you in advance for taking the time.
I have a X51v that seems to have issues. I'm note sure if it software or hardware related. Here are it's issues:
The unit runs most programs and especially the calender really slow (slower than my old IPAQ 3955), even though I have it set on the maximum performance. I have tried auto, but it is even slower.
I have never been able to back it up as it just pops up a 4 color circle-in-a-square windows icon thing, that rotates clockwise. This never stops until I do a soft reboot.
Also, at times I try to turn it on and it's won't turn on without a soft reboot. I have not detected any particular pattern to this.
I suspect it is perhaps the size of my calender or number of contacts? I cannot find a maximum number or size limit anywhere for the unit.
I thought buying this was a big step up from the old IPAQ 3955, yet it has just been a big disappointment. This is the first Dell product i have ever bought, and I think it will be the last. Dell's customer service is polite, but terrible. They don't seem like techs at all, just people they hire to read help screens off a computer or something.
Anyway, I want to have a good relatioship with the AXIM X51v, but it has to be a two way street.
how many running programs do you have in the background? maybe memory is too low. don't forget that WM5 only minimizes the program, not close it. switcher bar or 3rd party utilities like magic button or vbar have been used to avoid this.

Appreciate the response mofologic.
I watch the memory closely and check to make sure many programs are not running in the background. I don't think this is the problem, but thank you for the suggestion.
I agree that you should do a hard reset in order to determine what the problem is. But use the Axim w/o synchronizing the device or installing any other software. Check the speed of the menus, the available memory, etc.
Next, sync the device before installing any apps. Now you can test your theory about the number of contacts, appointments, etc. BTW: if you sync your messages, limit the message size, the number of messages, attachments, etc.
Now install a task manager like Magic Button or vBar. Now you can monitor what is running, and can kill unwanted programs.
Next install your apps one or two at a time. Test your device for it's speed and functionality after each install (or group of installs). This could point out that one app in particular is the culprit.
If all of this fails, and you may have a defective unit, so call Dell.
