Bluetooth ports

I put a bluetooth dongle on my PC and while it seemed to install, it is stuck on Com 4 incoming and Com5 outgoing, but the Axim is only offering 7 and 8. I can't change the ports on either end.

Any ideas?

Two ways to do it.
1. Add ports in the registry
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Serial\Ports\ "SupportedPorts"

2. Install the Widcomm stack and use it's superior bluetooth manager to search for available services.

Okay, here's how I ended up making it work. I had to remove everything from the PC side, including using regedit to clean out the registry. The I turned the Axim on and made sure the "allow to be detected" was enabled. THEN I installed the software for the dongle on the PC and as it deteced it assigned the correct virtual ports and it works fine.

That being said, I think I could have rewritten the Word file I used as a test in the time it took to transfer via Bluetooth.

But that's not why I got the BT. I mainly got it because it's there and I never worked with it, so this was the learning experience for me. I have GPS in my near future, at which time I anticipate leaving another load of newbie level messages.... :-)

There's a lot of uses for bluetooth (Axim). Here's what I use mine for (or successfully tried doing).
1. accessing shared folders over the network
2. GPS
3. Sharing GPS signal from one receiver to two pocket pcs or to a pocket pc and a laptop.
4. Watching movies, listening to music over the bluetooth network (of my computer).
5. Internet via GPRS from a bluetooth phone.
6. Sending and receiving files to and from different bluetooth devices.
7. Connecting and using bluetooth headset.
8. Internet using a 56K bluetooth modem.
9. Internet sharing from my computer without going thru active sync.
10. ActiveSync
11. Dial contacts from Axim, send SMS.
12. Skype using bluetooth headset.

Things I haven't done but would like to do.
1. network games via bluetooth (no one to play with)
2. A2DP (no money to buy headphones yet)
3. Share the Internet from one PDA to another (I heard it could be done but haven't tried it yet).

I'm sure there are a lot more uses than what have been mentioned above.
