Can't perform hard reset - - - HELP!

Hi guys:

I'm trying to upgrade my ROM from A06 to the new A12 but I can't get the machine to do a hard reset. What happens is this:

I follow the instructions to press the power button and reset button at the the same time. The screen goes black and then I get the reset menu flashes on the screen for just a fraction of a second before the Axim continues to start-up normally. The screen that asks me to press the contacts button only flashes for maybe 1/10th of a second. Even if I keep the contacts button pressed the machine continues to start-up normally without a real hard reset.

Anyone know of an alternative way to hard reset these machines? Used to be able to do it with my ol X5 by taking out both the main and backup battery but don't see how to do it with the X51v.

Any ideas or suggestions? I've tried it about 10 times trying to hit the contacts button at the right moment without luck.

Running through the ROM upgrade utility doesn't work either because when I get to the first instruction to peform a hard reset I can't get the hard reset to work. The upgrade utility seems to be working fine but then I go to do the first hard reset as per the utility's instructions and it fails and I'm back to my old unchanged machine.

There are lots of this story here. Read a little and you will find them. the solution ( ihad the same problem) is to just do the hard reset and let it flash like you have seen then just continue on. It will work. good luck

The first hard reset you do in that upgrade isn't really a hard reset. Leave the Axim update program running on the PC, perform the hard reset as you have been and let the axim boot up and connect to activesync as it normally would and the update will continue.

It does this to update the bootloader and then proceed to update the bootloader again and then the OS.

Thanks guys,

That worked. I just went through the upgrade again and ignored the fact that the first hard reset wasn't a real hard reset (got my old pocketbreeze today screen back) and the update continued successfully.

My Axim was getting so messed up that I was due for a serious hard reset and cleaning anyway. Hopefully this will get rid of the hangs and delays I was experiencing and the endless trouble with the autoload of Odyssey which I don't use anyway.

I do exactly what's written here and when I do the hard "soft" reset the update utility just stares at me with the same dumb look that I have on my face and does not offer up the "continue" button. What gives?

sorry guys... I had to actually move to another computer and repeat the process... then it worked. Great work on you guys (and gals) figuring it out.
