OK, here's the deal:

WM5 device Axim X51
ActiveSync 4.2
WinXP SP2
Internet connection through a wi-fi DSL router, DHCP enabled, works perfectly.

PPC syncs OK, can access the net through direct wi-fi connection to the router or BT connection to the mobile phone (UMTS), but not when docked. First noticed it when SPB Weather didn't update. Tried PIE, which reports that "The page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x80072f78." No other program can "see" a connection when docked, either.

Bugger.

Tried all Network Cards and Connections combinations on PPC, still the same error. Ditto with ActiveSync settings, both on device and on desktop. Repaired the connection in Network Connections, tried disabling the Windows firewall (no other installed). Specified the DNS addresses manually. Nada.

I'm reasonably certain it worked when I first set it up (been away from the desktop for a week, I only had a day or two to set up the new device prior to that). Tried hard reset, still the same result (so the PPC apparently isn't the culprit). I haven't changed anything on the desktop, though!

Never had any such problem with previous devices (apart from the old "connects to..." oddities).

Any clues? Suggestions? Anyone? Please?

I'm not completely sure this is the problem, but Activesync in WM5 shuts down the wireless connection (all part of the new 'security' features M$ foisted on us that also prevents syncing over local networks).

If this is your problem, Airfix allows the WiFi on the X51 to remain active.
