X51v purchased last March. Hardware is A01. Came with A06 firmware. Tried to update to A12 without success. Stopped trying to avoid getting bricked. Runs fine with A06. :rolling: Waiting for A14. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/images/smilies/wacko.gif

Anyone have Volume issues after the update to A12? I have a x51v A01 Hardware and just updated to A12 ROM... Now, the volume control in the upper right hand corner has disappeared. Any good volume programs out there to replace the vanishing WM5 Built in?

Just had to buy an X51v after dell wouldn't swap out my X50v for not being able to run WM2005, dell have confirmed that the X50v is not compatible with WM2005. but have now had word back from them that they will refund my purchase of the X50v. not to bad considering that i paid more for the X50v than i did for the X51v. Bonus updated system at a cheaper price. :approve:
but anyway back on to the subject of firmware\hardware. new axim arrived on monday. loaded it straight up with the bluetooth update. works a treat.
Axim shiped with hardware version A04 and A12 Rom.

Hello everybody.
Firstly, congratulations to all of you for this great forum.
I'm an absolute beginner in this Pocket PC world, until 2 days ago.
Now I own a brand new x51v, so I'm quite lost and need some help of you.
Everything seems works fine with my Axim... exception I've tried a ROM upgrade without sucess.
After a perfectly normal full install process using activesync 4.2, I can see that my Rom version is still A04 (06230600) not A12!!!...
is this correct? or what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my poor english.

Your prolly seeing your Hardware version. A04 = hardware. A12 = software.

For the record:
I have an Axim x51 version A02. I ran the upgrade from A08 to A12 without any problems.
Also have an Axim x51v, version A01. The A08 to A12 upgrade went in without any issues.
Edit: I *think* the x51v had A08 beforehand, but can't be sure.

Mine is A00 but I can't seem to HARD RESET and hence the updated is stuck on the dialog were I'm asked to HARD RESET- no 'continue' button appear.
I tried to follow the detailed A06->A12 thread - did no good

Guys,
When you failed to see the screen with "Continue" button after hard reset, try to find any desktop or laptop to update. I was stuck at the same point for over four X51V unit. I kept asking Dell to send me a replacement when the update was failed. Finally I went on the 3rd computer to try and it worked! Then I did two X51V from A06 to A12 without problem. As I worked on the 4th X51V, I still had the 3rd one in hand. Both two X51V were first failed on my laptop and desktop computer until I tried on my wife's laptop (3rd computer). Therefore, I pretty much sure the procedure is straight forward and simply follow the prompted instruction is sufficient to go through the update. The real problem is how the ActiveSync 4.2 works with your computer correctly or not. You can't tell which installed applications in your computer affecting the AS during the update. I installed the latest AS 4.2 on all my computers. In the beginning of failures, I had tried closing or stopping many antivirus and spyware agents and drivers on the first 2 computers, but the updates still failed. On my wife's laptop, I did it with her company's antivirus and spyware on while the VPN connected to her company. It worked fine. Really, the difference of her computer and mine two are that mine have more applications installed and older. Her computer is new for 4 months.
Go get another computer to try if you fail. It was really difficult to locate what application in your computer is conflicting with AS. Trust me, I did 4 X51V and each one had gone through dozen of times.

Hi,
during your failed update,
was you once locked at the step of the dell logo blue screen after reboot (after hard reset)?
I have HW version A01 and a failed update from rom A06 to A12, i'm locked at the logo screen, and i have to say that i removed my x51v from cardle to perform hard reset.
thanks.

Oops! Sure, it wouldn't really do a hard reset in the cradle. That's the point.

in all my failed cases, it went pass the first "hard reset" and connected with guest log in after cancelling the partnership. But the screen on the desktop do not provide the next screen for "Continue" which will put your PDA next to update image file on his own. I did not remove X51 off from the cradle at all time until the A12 is installed.
My hardware is A01 as well as all other 3 replacement from Dell.

Mine is HW A01 and AS4.1. Just recently upgraded to A12 from A06 using procedure from Dell. Upgrade was successful. No issues so far. There seems to be noticeable improvement when using PIE (pages load faster). Also easier to establish connection with my bluetooth gps (bt-309 bought from Dell).

I updated to A12 and had to do two hard resets to complete it. However, now I cannot find the two games that came installed on the X51, solitaire and bubblebreaker. Is there away to get them back?
