You can read the hardware version when you take the battery out, it is written at the back of the axim.
I'm not sure that the label is the actual hardware version. My axim's label has "A12" and the unit came with A12ROM installed. I think it could just be the ROM version that was originally used during production.
Maybe Dell changed the hardware to work with A12!?

I'm not sure about yours, I'm sure about mine. My hardware version is A00 with ROM A06, originally ROM A01.
I just installed the latest version of SPB Plus. They've added some sort of patch for the spontaneous turn on issue. Seems to work, but I'm still reserving my judgment.

On an X51v 624mhz Dell PDA ... you can check it by going into Start --- settings ---system ----and then click on "system information"
ive recently upgraded my ROM from A06 to A12 ...and now its running smooth after installing widcomm BlueTooth... Hurray .... we all love it when it works !!
I've been keeping up the many posts where people are having issues, some minor, some major, with the A12 ROM update. Some people are experiencing no discernable problems (like myself).
From previous posts, I have read that there are least two different hardware version of the X51v (not sure about the other X51's). I have no idea, but given some people have issues, and others don't, it could be third party software issues (or the way they interact with the A12 ROM), or it could be that one hardware version of the X51v works the the A12 ROM, and the other does not.
So, If you could post whether or not you're having issues with the A12 ROM, and what hardware version you have, this could help determining the issue (and who should or shouldn't do the update). If someone could explain how to tell with hardware version you have, that would also be helpful.
I just received my x51V from dell, replacement for X50V.
ROM A12, HW A12....
Luv it so far except for battery drainage
After a full nites chargeing, indicator light solid green... all battery indicators from Wisbar Advance 2 and Pocket plus saying 100%...
I backed up this morning with spb backup....after the soft reset...indicators are 90%!!!
Just using it for general PIM, I can notice significant battery drainage.
I have the Mugen 1800mah extended battery and was getting great usage on it with my x50v wmse, but with x51V mobile 5....feels like I may need to upgrade to bigger size.
I am using the activesync server hack....No BT or Wifi on....either
Any gueses on poor battery?????

Two things come to mind. first, after doing my upgrade to A12 I found that I had to do one extra hard reset. After the normal hard resets needed to do the upgrade i found that i was getting high battery usage like you describe. An extra 'hard reset' seemed to have fixed it and it hasn't returned. Others reported battery issues right after the A12 ROM was released and this seemed to help them too. Second, you may need to let the pda re-calibrate to your battery. I think that the meters have to go through a couple of chagre, discharge cycles to get the battery figured out. That might actually be what was causing my problem and maybe a hard reset causes it to re-calibrate? Not sure about that part. Losing 10% on a fresh charge from doing a backup is definately not normal and if the battery worked in the other unit i doubt that it suddenly went bad.
