Question A12 update problems - related to hardware version of your X51???

I've been keeping up the many posts where people are having issues, some minor, some major, with the A12 ROM update. Some people are experiencing no discernable problems (like myself).

From previous posts, I have read that there are least two different hardware version of the X51v (not sure about the other X51's). I have no idea, but given some people have issues, and others don't, it could be third party software issues (or the way they interact with the A12 ROM), or it could be that one hardware version of the X51v works the the A12 ROM, and the other does not.

So, If you could post whether or not you're having issues with the A12 ROM, and what hardware version you have, this could help determining the issue (and who should or shouldn't do the update). If someone could explain how to tell with hardware version you have, that would also be helpful.

You can read the hardware version when you take the battery out, it is written at the back of the axim.

Under the battery: A00

History: ROM A01 for 6 months + fake server trick. No Problems.
Switched to ROM A12 2 weeks ago, following instructions on this site.
Now running ROM A12 (06200600) with OS: 5.1.195 (14957.2.3.1).

NO PROBLEMS (except my reminders don't fire up).

I have read in the main A12 thread that there is a fix for the reminder issue. I suggest you search the forum for A12 and reminders and see what it turns up.

I have hardware version A00

My X51v with A12 is running really well, no issues at all. Very Quick, no WSOD, , battery life is better than or equal to my X50v with WM2003SE, WiFi works very well, installed Widcomm BT and fake server, no other changes.

I just neded to put a tick in the correct box (Programs, Notifications), rather than the incorrect one (Events)!

I've updated to A12 on two X51v's (one is a friend's). Both have HW versions A01 and both updates went without a hitch. Changes I've made to mine include the Widcomm BT stack and fake server.

No issues have been noted and both seem to run faster under A12.

I have the same conditions hard ware wise that you have. I went from ROM A01 to A04 to A06 and now to A12. No battery, wsod, reset to wake up, lost cards issues. My unit is noticeably faster in every aspect. Its the unit I was waiting for. Update to A12 went smooth and with no issues through both of the hard resets while my unit REMAINED in the cradle.

Ok, according to the posters so far, Hardware versions A00 and A01 seems to work with ROM A12. Waiting for Hardware A02 and A03(?) before we can call this a myth.

I was just taking a stab in the dark at why some people have absolutely no problems, and it seems others have major problems. It's looking like it's on a hardware issue (although, only one A01 reported).

Those who are having issues, did their upgrade go without any issues (I had no problems what so ever - worked great, didn't even take long). I also did NOT try to restore from backup after the ROM update (that's always a bad idea). I'm wondering if those who are having trouble did anything like that, or if they have certain third party apps installed.

No doubt that stab in the dark is a good try. All of us have the same objective, to distinguish between fact and fiction regarding A12. Some reported that they restored from a backup after another hard reset and that worked for them. Some were also thinking on the same lines that the Activesync version has something to do with it but apparently that was a myth too since people started reporting that they had success with different versions. I also believe those people who said they had problems upgrading because of the computer they were using to upgrade, and finally succeeded after using another computer or a clean install of the OS. It seems that problems happen randomly and until we get a clearcut common denominator to a common problem, all these are just speculation . But these are good tries though.

I have hardware version A01, running ROM upgrade A12. Installed perfectly, works fine.

Any other A02 or A03 hardware who have done the A12 upgrade?
