Okay, here is an oddball one for everyone…
I own an Axim x51v and have been very pleased with it. It is my seventh PDA so I am not a newbie by an means.
My sister got an x51v also about a month ago and the wireless connection at her house has been giving me fits. She has Qwest DSL with an Actiontec DSL modem / wireless router. I configure the Axim with the required settings, connect wirelessly and it works but it is very slow making the initial connection to any mobile web site.
For instance, if I go to MSNBC’s (or any others) mobile web site, it takes about 20 seconds to load the first page. After that, if you click on a story within that site, it is fast as it should be. It does this on all mobile web sites – the initial page takes about 20 seconds, then any subsequent links on that same site load fast.
- I tried it with my own x51v and it did the same thing.
- I have tried turning off encryption / using a different encryption type and that did nothing.
- Thinking it might be some sort of incompatibility with the Actiontec router, I had her go by a Linksys router but the problem continued.
- I have tried manually setting the Axim’s IP address – that did nothing.
In the past week my brother got an x51v as well (can you tell we love Dell’s? – haha). I went to his house to help set it up and have the exact same problem. Again, he has Qwest DSL with the Actiontec modem / router.
I should also say that at both of their houses, the wireless connections work perfectly fine with their laptops. The problems are strictly confined to their Axims.
My Axim works like a champ at my house with Comcast cable Internet and a Linksys router. If I take either of their PDAs and connect at my house they work fine as well. So, it is definitely something confined to the Qwest DSL my brother and sister have and their Axims. Two different houses, both with Qwest DSL have the problem but only with their Axims - it works fine with their laptops. It seems like it could be a DNS-type issue but I have no idea how to resolve it or why it would only affect the Axims.
Anyone have any ideas on this one? It is just totally bizarre and I am stumped.

Thanks!
Tony
