Hello all I had upgraded to the A12 ROM version and everything was working slick. Everything was moving faster, stuff wasn't bogging down and even had some better battery life. However this kinda scored a negative when I tried connecting up wireless. When I turn on the wireless ability for my Axim X51v there is no driver present. I have this screen
WLAN Utility
Status: Driver Not Loaded
Utility Version 1.0.0.2
Driver Version N/A
Firmware Version N/A
EEPROM Version N/A
I tried searching for drivers but most of the searches ended up with people with older models that don't have it internally and they end up using a card. I tried searching the Dell site too to find something but no luck there either. Is there some place I can go to download this driver or can I try to redo the A12 load?
I also upgraded to A12, but I'm a new user so hadn't tried out wireless much with the earlier ROM (06). Having said that, I have found much the same as you - except that wireless worked for a while, then unaccountably "lost" the driver the next time I tried to connect.
After much fiddling around - including selecting the Dell Axim X51 WLAN Wireless Adapter as Control suggested - I found that a soft reset enabled me to connect again.
This has happened a couple of times to me, however, so a more permanent fix may well require a hard reset.
The most common reason for Driver not Loaded is simply that you have'nt turned it on.
Start/settings/Connections/Dell WLAN Utility then big button that says Turn On.

I'm having the same problems. I have had A12 on the Axim for quite awhile now, but the issues with the wireless not turning on cropped up about 45 days ago. The only new items on the Axim have been the DST patch and the Odyssey notify patch.
I have even had the wireless turn on, but neither the LED in the upper right corner nor the icon in the lower right corner would illuminate, but I was able to send and receive packets (no, I was not docked).
Its been one week now since a hard reset, reinstalling all apps, but leaving the Odyssey notify patch and DST patch off. Absolutely no problems with wireless nor any activesync problems that I had been experiencing where the Activesync would connect, but not synchronize.
I have problems with this wireless adapter regularly. If it's not one thing it's another. Today's problem was in fact that it was turned off for some reason. How does that happen? Now my problem is that there is a list of wireless networks available and I can't get my Axim to select the one that I want. Only one has a Good signal. Only one has been used before. How do I get it to ignore or delete the ones I don't want and only access the one I do want?
I should say there are several networks that are "Available" but I can't seem to activate mine (although I know it's working because I'm using it with my Dell laptop to access this forum! Status: Scanning network.

Reason: clarification
A couple of possible soutions for the constant scanning/not connecting problem from the WiFi Guide:
Quote:
If your device was able to connect initially but on subsequent attempts simply keeps scanning for networks but not connecting, there are a couple of possible solutions. The easiest is to delete all the extra networks listed on the Configure Wireless Networks page. In Axims with built-in WiFi, open the Wireless LAN utility, turn on the wireless, then tap the 'Setting' button on the Main screen. This takes you to the Configure Wireless Networks page. Hold your stylus on the name of each network and select 'Remove Settings' from the popup menu. If the network is shown as 'Available,' you'll need to move out of the range before it will allow you to remove the settings. [If the Remove Settings option is greyed out, then no settings have been stored for that particular network and it is showing in the list because you are within range of the access point.]
If this does not solve the continuous scanning problem, then a registry setting may be at fault (as described by KySandman in this thread at Aximsite). To make the following changes, you will need a registry editor, such as PHM Regedit. [Note: Before making any changes to your registry, you should make a full backup of your PPC. Making a mistake in the registry could cause the device to no longer function and that will require a hard reset to recover.] Since the instructions in the Aximsite thread refer to the X30, the location of the Domain field will probably be different on your device. Search the registry for "TCPIP" or "Domain." Before making any changes, write down the exact location and current entry in the field. For example, on my device using a CF card with the Intersil Prism drivers, the domain value of interest is located at \HKLM\Comm\PRISM1\Parms\TCPIP. After making a note of its content, tap on the Domain field name, delete the Value, exit the registry editor, soft reset your PPC, enable wireless and test for a connection. If this does not fix the problem, I recommend restoring the entry before trying other solutions.

actually, i'm having this problem now too. sadly, i've found that ALL files having to do with wifi have disappeared from the /Windows folder if i use any file exlorer. im trying to figure out what the hell is going on....
edit- they apparently are now "hidden files"and i can't change or access them...time to go through dell tech support...

he doesn't even know the standard features of the device...he couldn't tell me that the wireless was integrated on an x50v. that's sad, dell.
i HATE it when you know more than the tech support. he can't seem to wrap it around his head that there are files that are messed up ON the axim, and it has noting to do with the network.
Bah...if i could only change the attributes, i could get off the phone and go to bed. Will edit to let you know how this goes, but sadly, i don't htink i'l get any solid help from here.
BTW,im running an A05 x50V running WM2003SE
they're replacing the whole unit due to a "defective card". idiots. I'm going to talk to his supervisor.
Listen man, and to all other who get this message-
I think if you reflash your ROM or if someone would be nice enough to isolate all the files in err and copy "good" versions of the files for you to download and replace your bad versions, that will fix you error and that will be the end of that. I'm not complaining because i have complete care still:)
The good news for anyone else with this problem is that they're adding my research to their case files:)...hopefully
