Hi folks, I just done the A12 upgrade with no problems. Does anyone know if the fake server trick is still necessary? Iv done it anyway so I hope its OK as Iv absolutely no idea how to reverse it.
Thanks
Derek
doesn't work? or is there some problem that it isn't fixing? So far I have tried it with and without and don't really see any problems either way. cf does not disapear but still getting those 5 minute syncs when connected even though schedule is set to manual.
Yeah it doesnt appear to work anymore. Many although report similar issues that the fake server trick fixed even after upgrading to A12. Suppose its your Donald Duck.

I just got a new x51v 2 weeks ago and it had A12 ROM already installed. I would shut down Active Sync. and turn off the PDA, and later turn it back on and AS was running. I did the fake server trick and it never comes back on unless I sync it to my PC. When I am done, I shut it down again. It works fine for me.
If you check the schedule entry on the AX you will see that it always returns to its default "send as recieve" (cant remember exactly) an not the 'manual' setting which was the whole point of the fake server trick.
I do it as it doesnt cause any harm but I have experienced similar issues that were reported with A06 i.e. battery drain, missing CF card etc. in the A12 and doing the fake server trick made no difference.
I have just Hard reset and rebuilt my ax and will start to see how it is running

After I upgraded to A12, AS would start every 5-10 minutes on my Axim when it was not connected to the craddle. I did the FST, and that problem was solved. As far keeping AS from starting every time when the Axim IS in the craddle, the two solutions are:
1. Unplug craddle from USB once Axim is sync'd; or
2. Sync via BlueTooth
....just my two cents :)

I did the FS server trick after A12 upgrade. AS was still starting by itself. Then I couldnt sync with outlook any longer "Could not connect to the exchange server..."
So I did a hard reset, reloaded WinXP + AS 4.1 (using a drive image). This time around I did not do the fake server trick since it lives up to its name. Instead I deleted the outlook shortcut from the startup folder. Activesync no longer starts on its own when in standby :approve:
After the A12 upgrade I did not reapply the FST. Active Sync comes back every 5 minutes or so, but after 3 days of non-use, the battery is stil at 94% which seems about right I guess.
Before A12 I had no choice but to use the FST as the battery would completely drain overnight.
once I created my server, which is a real one, i no longer have the 'send as received' option. and it stays on manual but still syncs every 5 minutes.
It will sync every 5 min even if applied FST - remeber it syncs with Windows PC,
not Exchange server. FST sets manual mode only for exchange server syncs !
All that FST does is ActiveSync on Axim does not start itself - i.e. even if
Axim was not cradled AS process would eventually start itself _without FST applied.
5 minutes interval cannot be changed, but we could write to Dell about it ...

I don't think that is true. It doesn't say that anywhere that I can find and it worked like a champ on my x50v with wm5 on it. only sync'd when I told it to.
