Dell Axim X51v and recurring Activesync Issue
I have a Dell Axim X51v, I'm using Activesync 4.2, and I sync files and notes to the desktop, and Outlook directly to an Exchange 2003 server. This set up works great for a while. After about a months worth of use, the syncing stops working. When I say it stops working, I mean Activesync doesn't even detect the device. The device will show up in device manager, but Activesync is clueless to its existence.
I have disabled firewalls; changed the connection type from Ethernet to USB and back; performed soft resets; deleted AS profile; removed every program 1 by 1; removed and reinstalled activesync; and some other things that I didn't expect to work and got what I expected.
A hard reset works every time. I reinstall everything and it still works. I go for weeks without installing anything or changing any settings then out of the blue, bang! it stops working. Again Activesync won't see my device. I'm not necessarily looking for the fix at this point, I'm just wondering whether or not anyone else is seeing this sort of behavior. If you've had this same experience and have a fix, definitely share as this is really annoying.
Here is how I have been able to fix this issue. I didn't expect this one to work, but it does. I have SPB Backup 1.5 on my PDA. If I do a full backup, hard reset, then a full restore and it starts working again. I'm sure the answer is probably pretty simple, but I unfortunately don't know what SPB Backup doesn't restore. If any one is privvy to this info, I would love to have this curiosity monkey fed with a big fat banana of knowledge.
Any thoughts or just a post saying you have shared this pain first hand is appreciated. Oh, BTW I hate Activesync 4.x!
Thanks,
JaMMy
