In the cradle, power button is green but won't turn on.
Out of cradle, will not turn on.
Soft reset does nothing.

The PDA will not power on at all!!

Any help?

Whatever your problem is it seems oddly similar to my own. Does activesync recognize your Axim?

to me it seems like the device is working in all regards, only the screen does not power on as if it is completely disconnected/fried/broken.

No, activsync doesnt recognise it

It's as if the lock is on - but it isnt.

Just in case you missed it in the thread c1oudrs pointed you to, make sure the battery door is in place and locked. You might also try adding a bit if tape to the right post in case it's not depressing the switch sufficiently.

The door is locked, battery in place.

The device makes no sound, activsync doesnt recognise it, the monitor does nothing. But, when putting it on the cradle, the power button shows amber and then green after a while, so it is charging.

Any further ideas?

Take the battery out for a period of time and put back in. I have read where this procedure has helped others. Which battery are you using? I often have problems with the battery cover issue on my extended battery. Does the battery show green when you place it in the back cradle slot?

The light shows amber for a few minutes when replaced on the cradle, even if it has been removed for only half a minute. I'll try resting the battery for a few minutes and see if it works

As ikehiker mentioned it is better to recheck the door cover and its shoes(The prongs ). In many cases these shoes cause problems and no one will notice. Make sure they are Ok and nothing abnormal is there with them.

The prongs on some of PDA seem to be smaller, making the pda think the door is open and keeping it from coming on. Check the cover sliding lock is far pushed to the side also.

Good Luck.

Did you try removing the battery and putting it back in?
