yet more sync issues

I have a x51v runing a06 and wm5 syncing withh usb & dell cradle

I am running AS 4.5 (I tried the others 4.0 4.2) on a win xppro machine.
The machine has a static private IP and sits behind a wireless router. There is no firewall, bluetooth, wireless on the desktop machine.

The computer does recognize the unit and installs a network driver and "mobile device" in my comuter when the device is attached. However it just will not sync. It says USB is com 1, but I have no idea how to actually verify which port is which.

The software installed an extra network adapter that has the animation of trying to find a DHCP address on it.

What address could it have? Another address of the same range as the PC or does it need to be a different range?

Would I be able to connect AS to my dekstop via wireless?

I run terminal services on a non standard port. How do I enter non standard ports in the wm5 ts client?

A number of things to be aware of:
- The PC must be capable of being a DHCP client. The Axim will provide an address that the PC will use. If this is not possible, you might be able to configure the networking adapter layers to have the correct IP address for the Axim to connect to, but I haven't tried that.

- The ActiveSync must be installed BEFORE connecting the device. When you plug the cradle and axim in to the usb before you load activesync, a device is added in the hardware manager and xp tries to find a driver for it. That will fail because there are no drivers for the axim. Active sync will not work if this device is present in the device manager. Delete the axim device in the device manager, de-install ActiveSync, reboot the PC with the axim OUT of the cradle. Once the the PC is booted and you have re-installed and loaded activesync THEN put the axim in the cradle.

- With ActiveSync V4.x you can't sync over WiFi to a PC. You can sync WiFi to an Internet point and then to an Exchange server. You can sync over BlueTooth or Infrared to a PC.
