X51 car charging... bit of a puzzler!

Hi all,

I have an Axim x51 with a car charger.

When the battery is reasonably full - 70% or more - it all works fine, and will charge up to 100% as well as run TomTom 6 with a CF gps card.

So far so good!

However... if the battery is a bit lower, particularly below 50%, when I connect the car charger the "charging" icon doesn't appear on the toolbar, and the Axim won't charge with the unit on.

If I switch it off, it'll happily charge up to 100%, but for some reason it won't charge up from the car charger while it's operating.

Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this??

that means that the charger is not capable of providing enough current to charge a low battery. It has to be able to supply over 1 amp (1000 mA) in order to work for you. My guess is that the charger you have is probably a 500 mA or less?

Cheers for the reply - I'll check the charger, but sounds like you are right.

Any ideas where I can pick up a decent - i.e. 1-amp - charger that will cope with a low battery?

Got the one I have from eBay, but was only £3 so happy to spend a bit more to get one that'll allow me to run in-car with a low charge.

There are lot around. I got one from Sempsons and also they are available on boxwave.com as well as others. just depends on what you want it to do. And Welcome to the site!
