Hi, I am pretty uneducated when it comes to some of the network settings and things like that on my axim x51. When I sync it I get this message saying unable to obtain a server assigned IP address.....Im not sure why or how to fix it.....
I was clicking in some settings to see if I had wireless, but I dont(unless I get a wireless card) anyhow can anyone help me??? There are things that talk about cleaning the registry but I have no idea what that means.....I really dont want to do a hard reset...... Help Please!
I have the x51, It does have bluetooth but it doesnt have wi fi....
I get this error message after I plug it in to my pc. It takes about a minute or two then the message unable to obtain a server assigned IP address comes up. If I clear it, then everthing works fine, but the message is annoying and it never came up before.(ive had the thing for about 2yrs)
can anyone tell me how to make that message stop poping up.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Unless you ahve the low end X51, then you do have wireless, and I think they ALL ahve Bluetooth, so you DO have wireless. Even if not, Activesync operates over TCP/IP, so it coudl be causing a glitch. I reccomend renewing all your IPaddresses on your windows box (flush then renew) and then reset your PDA (soft reset first) and see if that clears it up.

I know that my X51V is a wifi unit but I do not think the X51 is. I think you need to get a wireless SD or CF card to make it work. I could be wrong though.
i dont think anyone understands what I am asking.....I just want to know if anyone knows why suddenly this error message "unable to obtain a server assigned IP address" popping up on my x51 after I sync it with my pc.
As I said, I think it's an AS error, soft reset your Axim, then BEFORE you sync in, go into windows and click RUN then type "CMD" Then do the following:
c:\>ipconfig /flushdns
c:\>ipconfig /release all
c:\>ipconfig /renew all
That should completely reset ALL the IP addresses on your PC. Activesync uses TCP/IP to communicate with the Axim, so my guess is it's an error in the IP assignment.

i tried it, when I did ipconfig/release all it didnt work, it gives me a message "the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation.
So I took the all of the end and released and renewed but it didnt seem to help.
I am still getting the message "unable to obtain a server assigned ip address"

It's near impossible to trouble shoot this remotle but if you getting this error on your PC it's because >> the PC << is having problems renewing the IP address from the DHCP server on your network (maybe inside of your DSL/Cable modem). stop looking for a problem on the pocket pc.
contact your ISP and tell them "my pc is having problems obtaining an IP from the DHCP server."
Make sure the "My network card connects to" is set correctly.
Click the Remote-NDIS Host and make the following settings:
Check "Use specific IP address"
Set IP address=169.254.2.1, Subnet mask=255.255.0.0, Default Gateway=169.254.2.2
Click OK.
Disconnect, soft reset, and reconnect.
One big caveat with this though: It will probably prevent you from being able to make a wireless connection. To get wireless to work you will probably have to set to a 192.168.0.x address, or go back to DHCP.
