What kind of PDA do you use now?

I don't have the AC adapter connected to my cradle. I use it to charge the Axim when away from my PC since the USB port can charge the battery through the cradle without it. When I want to charge my Axim x51v in the cradle without automatic ActiveSync activation, I first perform a full power off. You can set the Axim's power button to do this as follows:

Start - Home - Power, then scroll to the far right tab ("Power Button") and select the "Full power off" option. (A short click of the power button will still put the Axim into 'suspend' mode after you change this setting.)

Whenever you're ready to power the thing completely off, close all running programs (especially ActiveSync!) and then press & hold the power button. You'll get a warning about losing any unsaved data, then tap OK.

Next, place the Axim in the cradle. My PC doesn't recognize that a device has even been connected so ActiveSync remains dormant. But the power button on the Axim glows red indicating that it's charging the battery. :approve:

Thanks for trying frenchy, I jsut installed powertap, but all it does is suspend the PDA, not total-power-off

As I said before, my AC adapter is used elsewhere.

I dont want to set the power button for a total power off because I use it to light/dim my display at times. What I would love is either an application that does it, or, even a way to press, like REC + POWER to do a total pwoer off. (does anyone have any special button-mapping software that can do that?)

As wegmand explained, the setting only does full power off when you press and hold the button. You can still do the standby with a quick press of the power button.

I've also seen mention of a program that disables Activesync from trying to sync while your Axim is cradled. I don't use it, so don't know the exact name, but I'm sure I have seen it mentioned in this forum. That might be what is causing your Axim to keep coming on, because I believe ActiveSync keeps trying to sync every 5 minutes.
