I had my X51v in the cradel and turne dit off to charge and I hear a 'click' like the start menu, and the thing powered back up! I'm afraid it'll drain the battery since the cradle's not plugged into the AC adapter (ever) and I may forget to take it out of the cradle and plug it in to charge soemtime...

When in the cradle even if not connected to power it will maintain the charge using the power provided by the USB port. If you turn the unit off it will change it.

It wont if the device decides to randomly power up, then it drains the battery because it only charges through the USB when the pwoer is off... that's my problem, that te device randomly (truely randomly! since I've posted this, it's ben sitting here nice and quiet, but I had turned it off LESS THAN 5 MIN when it pwoered back up before!)

BTW: Is Total power off really this bad a thing? nobody seems to want to tell me how to do it. If so, that's fine (I know it means next time I turn it on, it will take 30 sec to 'boot', but _does_ it cause random lockups and near-brickings and stuff?)
EDIT:
the pwoer chord is next to my sterio where I use my Axim to listen to music all night lol

There is no total power off if you are in the cradle. Total power off can only be achieve if you remove the battery and let it die. Otherwise it is always sort of on.

I know that's not right, because there's a setting to turn the pwoer button where a single press or a press-and-hold performs a total pwoer off. That's one of the features of WM05 and the X51 line. I just use the power button for turning on/off the backlight, so I was looking for a command or something to do a total power off...

OK some third party program can probably do this. I do not have my X51V anymore and can't test but I never try to turn it off completely. I didn't need to

I never have either, this only occurs in the cradle, all I have to do is hit the lock switch when it's in my pocket and I never have a problem with it pwoering on (unless it's reminding me of soemthing, which is VERY rare) I appoligize, I didn't realize you didn't have an X51, I'm sorry I was so rude.

No appology needed, I used to own one and could figure out this without testing it. First the cradle provide a source of stimuli to the PPC so maybe it is not possible to "turn it off" unless it is doen by a third party... I am just provided some insight not actual fact. These are possibilities.

ignoring diducemeb4's comment... I assume my best bet then is to just plug in the AC adapter to the cradel when I'm going to leave it in a while, incase it decides to randomly wake up?

What is the problem with having the AC adaptor plugged in? My adaptor is plugged in to the cradle but not plugged in the wall socket. When I want to charge it, I plug the adaptor in the wall socket and then place the axim in the cradle and so far no problems.
My X51v doesn't power back up when I turn it off (of course I have no reminders set). On standby, after 12 hours, about 2% of charge was used up. I checked it this morning after charging it up completely kast night.
I also have the power button set for hold down and completely power off. I tried it a couple of times when I first got it Tuesday. It worked but I had this dreaded feeling of it not coming back up so I just use stand by. Can't help it, it's the paranoia in me.
