X51V USB Connector broke, how to fix?

Hi,

my X51V (latest ROM) has been getting harder and harder to sync using the USB cradle, have lately had to push it down fairly hard before the desktop PC (XP SP2, AS 4.2) would see it. But a couple of days ago it stopped connecting at all. I bought a new USB cradle, same problem, so seems to be the Axim connector or something else in the Axim itself. I can sync OK with Bluetooth.

Of course the one year guarantee ran out two months ago. Any ideas how to fix this? Can it be repaired? Synching with Bluetooth is ok, but it's more comfortable to use with the USB cradle. I've looked at the connector pins (really need a magnifying glass :-) but can't see that anything is bent, or otherwise messed up or any dust or dirt inside.

Thanks, Bob

Thanks, do you happen to know one in Europe? (I'm in Germany.) The UK would also be fine. :) I looked at the link you supplied and it said for Europe use one of our authorized resellers but didn't have a pointer to them. "Resellers" listed a company called eXpansys in various places in Europe, but I couldn't see where they had a repair service.

I've found a UK company, but I don't know if they work outside the UK...

http://www.apexlaptops.co.uk/repairs.htm

-=EDIT=-

Also found http://www.gpsmidlands.co.uk/ but again, I don't know how wide ranging they are....

I've looked on expansys' site and all they seem to list is the PPCTechs touchscreen repair and Ram upgrade, and for that they ship the unit to the USA for you.... not particularly useful.

Hope this helps.

Any electronics repair facility that does repairs of surface mount components can repair this. The solder joints have probably fractured and just need to be reflowed.

Give PDASmart.com a holler. Don't know if they ship internationally; however, they do FREE diagnostic, competitive prices, & excellent service.

Thanks for the last two replies. Yes, it's probably something simple like that. In the meantime I've finally gotten Bluetooth to work better with ActiveSync, so it's no longer a hassle to use it and I'll just use the cradle as a charging station.

I just had my 50v serviced by PDASMart.com and they did a good job. I had a bad USB/ Synch port as well.
