They say that one should leave well enough alone. Mr. Einstein also pointed out that only two things are infinite-- the universe and human stupidity.
Now, why I didn't think of that before I started messing with my Axim today is beyond me. Darn it, I think that I just might be a rebel at heart looking for some excitement in my life.
So this is what happened. I don't know if this long recount of today's adventure is necessary, because here's my problem: when I try place my Ax on its cradle now, a message comes up---
"USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"
And I don't know what's wrong. But to try to make some sense of how I went from Content-Girl-With-Perfecty-Functioning-PPC to Overly-Distraught-and-Clueless-Wreck in just 1 hour, let me describe what I inflicted on my Axim to get here in the first place.
Here goes......
So thinking that it would be wise to backup my data, and thinking that I would give Dell the benefit of the doubt before purchasing a 3rd party application, I decided to try out the data backup app that came on my Axim. So, I ran the backup.
Then I tried to do a restore. After it was finished, I soft reset it, and
nothing happened. Like my Axim just died. The lovely bright blue startup "Dell" screen would come up, but then, it would go dim and become completely unresponsive. A couple of soft resets showed that my Axim was as obstinate as me---each time taunting me with that lovely blue screen before going dead.
So after stifling a couple of cries, I did a hard reset. Then I started on the journey of reinstalling my applications via Activesync, one by one, each of which I would follow with a swift self-inflicted kick in the arse for putting myself in this position in the first place. But after a few installations, I decided that it wouldn't hurt to give my data restore a 2nd try. I mean, what else could I lose?
So I stopped Activesync, took my Axim off its cradle, crossed my fingers, and tried to do the restore again.
And this time it worked! I went from blank slate to original state, with all my applications, all my settings. Why did the data restore work this time but not last time? I didn't care. I was floating on cloud nine. I cried like I had found my lost puppy.
THEN, I tried to sync it. And everything was a jumbled mess. It would detect my Axim and would try to sync, but it then would give me an error message saying that synchronization could not be completed. But at the same time it would synchronize "My Documents" onto my desktop as Guest. So then, not knowing what I was doing, I uninstalled and reinstalled Activesync a few times.......until finally.....now........I come to my last problem----the fact that my computer no longer recognizes that there is a device connected whenever I place my Axim on the cradle.
That's all. So I beg you, please, save me from my stupidity. Perhaps there's an easy solution, but this here person wouldn't know it. I would appreciate any help from you guys.
Thanks :)
