Axim X51 and Outlook 2002 with Vista
I am about to buy a new PC with Vista Home Premium but, from reading these forums, it seems a lot of people are having problems with syncing their Axims under Vista.
My Axim X51 came with Outlook 2002. Does anyone know if there are problems with the new Windows Mobile Device Centre, the Axim X51 and Outlook 2002?
Thankyou

Second, after download of WMC, started to sync with Outlook 2007. But now I have hundreds of duplicates "per day" Does anyone know how to get rid of these duplicates?

I get "connecting" for a while and then get "error". I have had it with vista. There are no drivers for my Graphtec plotter either which is my main office tool. I have to keep my old computer now. Both are Dell and so is the Axim that will not sync. Will give Dellhi "customer service" one try tomorrow. If that fails I roll back to XP until they get vista properly ready for use. What a waste of time and money.

Did you try using the "Office Diagnostics" tool under Help in Outlook? This worked for me and I had tried reinstalling WMDC, Outlook and Vista several times with no success. Be sure to use the latest WMDC and have your Axim in the cradle and on when installing WMDC....

axim, laptop, and sync
My new Dell Inspiron 1501 and my Aximx51v do not sync. The same applies to my axim 5. I have been told that Microsoft Outlook 2002 is incompatible with Vista and that I may either buy MS Outlook 2003, 2007, switch to using MS Works Suite that originally came with my Dell, or that I go back to XP. Either that or wait for a patch.
So I decided to download Office 2007 Standard [Trial], which includes Outlook 2007. Guess What! It says it syncs, but doesn’t transfer information. Dell support says I need a patch in both cases, which they don’t have yet!
I am very frustrated, as I need to be able to use my computer and my PDA. All current solutions cost me money and time, and I was not told this before installing window Vista Upgrade. Dell is responsible, since they sell both the software and hardware. I have requested Dell fix this problem at no cost, but I am, in the meantime, stuck! :realmad:
Does anyone have a solution?

Outlook 2002 and Vista compatibility
With reference to rickgreen's posting - I wondered who told you that Outlook 2002 and Vista were not compatible? Microsoft have a tutorial on the Windows Mobile Device Centre on their website. This says that the WMDC (and I assume Vista also) is compatible with Outlook XP, 2003 and 2007. I'm not sure if Outlook 2002 is the same as XP - do you know if they are one and the same?
I ran the Vista Compatability Test on my XP Dell Dimension (with Office 2000 and Outlook 2002 installed) and the report didn't show any problems with the software.
Although Dell are selling PCs with Vista installed and also supplied the Axim together with Outlook 2002, there doesn't seem to be anything in their Knowledge Base about the problems of compatibility.
So far, I'm holding off upgrading as it is vital to me that my Axim will sync with Vista.

I have vista ultimate and axim 51 with windows mobile 5. I have the wmdc and outlook 2003.
what I'm trying to achieve is what was so easy with activesync - which is that all the folders I specify sync and outlook syncs and I get very granular controls.
well vista sees the axim and I can copy files to and from it but when I try and get the syncing together it turns to mud. I have set up in wmdc connect with both usb and bluetooth but I've only tried usb so far. I open the sync center and I guess I have to set up sync partnerships. but this seems to involve making files available 'offline'. Problem is when I follow the instructions and right click on the axim files to 'make available offline' there is no 'make available offline option as in the instructions. Vista does not appear to acknowledge the usb connection as a 'network' connection so therefore this option doesn't come up.
I'm probably missing something sooo fundamental here but I'm darned if I can see what... any ideas?

This may be mentioned further down the thread but there seems to be an issue with 'advanced network functionality'. Go to your Axim, under System -> Connections -> USB to PC, clear the check box that says 'Enable advanced network funcionality'.
Hope this helps. It took me three days to resolve my connection issues,

Moe Vista weirdness
In a different thread I posted a question asking why my syncing was so slow. It looks like that you do need to clear that 'advanced network functionality' check box to get the device recognized and working.
HOWEVER, after all the drivers are up and everything is good, re-check that box and enable that feature! Your axim will be dog slow if you do not. So far, after it has been re-enabled, the device is fine (although new drivers were loaded for some reason).
