Sync problems with Outlook 2007 (help!)

I have a Dell Axim 51V and I have tried both Activesinc 4.2 and 4.5 to connect with Microsoft Outlook 2007 that my office just upgraded to.

I have had not luck in synchronizing anything with the new outlook including calendar, contact, emails, etc.

I discussed the issue with the software support with a Dell representive and his answer was simply that the Dell Axim was not compatable with Outlook 2007 - he could give me no further reasons as that is the information that he had been given.

Other web sites seem to indicate that Activesinc 4.2 and microsoft outlook 2007 can be connected so perhaps it is a Dell Axim issue only.

His suggestion was to re-insall Outlook 2003 which would be fine except that I have 17 people at my office and need communication between the computers (i.e. secretary books appointments, etc.)

Any information is greatly appreciated, even if it is just confirmation of the bad news.

I'm no Outlook expert, but I would strongly suspect that downgrading to 2003 would not significantly affect your functionality with the 2007 users, except possibly for some of the most advanced/arcane features.

I will look into any problems if I downgrade to Outlook 2003.

Bigtiger: - did you have any issues at all? It is frustrating that the Dell response was that it is not compatible. What version of Activesync are you using??

Thanks.

What OS are you running? I am running Vista and Outlook 2007 and it works fine.

I'm running XP Pro (SP2), Office 2007, Active Sync 4.5. I can sync fine (but I'm not using an Axim).

Try re-installing Active Sync.

It appears there are several examples of people that have been able to sync with Outlook 2007. I will try to re-install, etc. to see if I can keep it from crashing. I will also try to contact Dell support again, perhaps a different person will have a different answer.

Regards.

Hey, I just left another post saying that I have problems opening Tasks after I sync with Outlook 2003. Dell Chat Support told me that the Axims were designed to work with Outlook 2002, and that the issue is with the incompatability between Axim (and not necessarily the Windows Mobile 5.0 that I'm running) and Outlook 2003.

Any thoughts? I'm about to send this unit back and get my money back!

That is exactly the line that the Dell rep told me with my problems syncing to 2007. I have not had a chance to try to resolve them with the suggestions from above. If it is indeed the case that Dell Axim is only designed to sync with Outlook 2002 then it is a brutal product that I would (if I could) send back immediately.

I was running Outlook 2007 Beta and never had any problems.

I had a few minor glitches when I first went to Outlook 2007. I simply deleted the partnership between the desktop and the device and set up a new partnership. Everything works fine after that. I am also syncing with Outlook 2003 at the office running W2K and have had no problems.

I am still trying to get it to sync. Re-installed outlook 2007 and active sync 4.2, tried deleting partnerships, etc. It will sync with no problems with Outlook 2002 (which came with the Dell).

Called support and they gave me the same line that the X51 will not sync with Outlook 2007 (in spite of some testimonies to the contrary). Have they fed anyone else this line??

Still trying.

I also can't sync Outlook 2007 with my x51v

I am having the same issues. I don't have the patience to call Dell so they can tell me to go back to Outlook 2003. So for now I just sync from work with Outlook 2003.

I had the same problems, even tried uninstalling Outlook, WMDC, and Vista. The solution that worked with Outlook 2007 was to run the Office Diagnostics tool under the Help menu in Outlook. It detected one problem on a clean install of the OS, with Outlook and WMDC laid down directly after the OS install, all while using a brand new Axim X51V... Fixed my synch issue, hope this helps!
